Can anyone tell me how to hitch the trailer to the 1939 Ford, D4C LE, by Franklin Mint? I bought one of these secondhand a couple of years ago and it did not come with the handling and care instructions. I would think all you do is remove the bolt and slide the trailer coupler(?) under the rear bumper and when the holes line up put the bolt in, but I cannot remove the bolt, even WD-40 didn't help. Is the bolt secured/glued in place and not meant to be removed and therefore you can't attach the trailer? Thanks in advance for any replies.

There's a small round post attached to the tongue of the trailer. It fits down into the round hitch under the car's bumper.

@perrone1 Hi Tony - thanks for your reply. I have attached an image of the trailer and circled the post which is what I believe you are referring. Yes that is the "bolt" (sorry for not being clear) that I was referring to in my original message. I cannot remove it from it's current location, it seems stuck in there. I tried WD-40 and that did nothing to loosen it. Is it fixed or glued in that position or normally can it be removed and then positioned under the rear bumper as you mentioned and then the holes are lined up and the post reinserted? I'm guessing it is the latter and for some odd reason I cannot removed the post from the current position. Thanks for any help.

PS I should add that as it is now I cannot fit the two together.  The hitch coming out from under the car's bumper is too high and the post too long to fit the two together.

Brad, that hitch pin is permanently mounted on the trailer tongue. Not meant to be taken off. It would be exceptionally difficult to mount the three pieces together.

I understand that the distance is very narrow between the bumper and the hitch bar. Hold the trailer in one hand, the car in the other. By keeping the trailer lower than the back of the car, angle the trailer tongue with pin up and between the bumper and trailer hitch. Locate the pin in the center hole and position both the car & trailer where you desire. Is it possible that the bumper has been misaligned at some point and needs to be re-secured?

@perrone1 Thanks for your reply Tony, so that explains why the WD-40 didn't work 😀. I don't think the rear bumper is misaligned, have to look at it more closely. It looks like I'll have to play around with it as you suggested and see if I can get it to fit. Failing that, maybe if I shorten the post just a tad that might make it a little easier. Thanks again Tony, take care.

Hi Brad. Had the same problem with my version of the car. You need to hold the trailer in a certain angle to attach it. I too thought the bumper was somehow misaligned, but after some practice it works. Because I am moving to a new house in a few weeks i had to box my entire collection last weeks. So for unhooking you will need the same skills 😅

@donderbeestje Thanks, I appreciate your reply.  I'll have to spend some time playing around with it to get it to line up - sounds tricky.  I like that '36 Ford w/ trailer - looks sharp.
