Anyone catch American Hot Rod tonight.......

They are trying to build what looks to be a very cool woodie.
But looks like Boyd is to busy firing everyone, and I think he has Charlie in his cross+hair's.
So maybe the story I heard is true that Charlie & Beatle are now working for Chip Foose???

James, I didn't see that one, but, to be honest with you, this show pi--es me off. They take a very nice antique car, all original, in very easily restorable shape and chop the hell out of them. I saw them rip apart a real nice early to mid twenties Ford model T coupe in great original shape. It still had nice original wood spoke wheels! I mean, couldn't they find a car in rough shape and make a hot rod out of that? I just don't get it.These very old cars are pieces of history that can not be replaced. Think, how many T-buckets do you see at car shows, allot. But, how many restored, or, original 1925 Model T's do you see? Not too many. OK, I'll get of my soapbox, now, you hot rodders can fire away.

I am with you Douglas. I hate it when they tear apart what can be restored to a perfect Classic, but

I guess money talks and they careless if its a restorable or a classic in perfect shape, to me the main purpose in their mind is to put on a show. There is a lot of overreactions and things that don't ring a bell in that show. For me a chopped classic is not worth or means anything anymore. I like OCC better, they are a little more on the real side to me.

I have one thing to say to you, Doug...

You are right. I always think of Hot Rods as junkyard wrecks brought back to life by talented craftsmen. It really was a shame to see those two beautiful old Fords get chopped up. I bet they made a fortune selling all the left over parts at the flea markets.

I can't stand their constant fighting. No shop can be efficient with that tyoe of atmosphere. I don't think Coddington is helping his business with this show. They need new writers.

Did you notice, a few shows back when they were building the 56 Chevy, they had only a few days to do the car. [AS USUAL] They fought and got the car done, [AS USUAL]. Now in every episode, there sits the Chevy, doing nothing but gathering dust against the wall. What was the big rush.

Its all a script they follow, its a show not reality. They are all professionals and can get the work on time, but they feel they need to put spice into it so youngsters and all other not car fanatics watch the show at least for the fights. It even got my mother hooked for whole show when they started firing people, lol.

Guess they needed a background for future shows, Les

Seriously, I hate to see any old original car in good shape turned into a rod for the purpose of creating a tv show; a real waste[-(

Les, it's all hype now from the reality tv shows...

...life's a disaster if you don't have a disaster!
Doesn't matter what it is, if there's no conflict, people don't watch, what a shame!

I don't see why a guy like Coddington would EVER put himself in a position, reality or not, where his ENTIRE operation appears to be a joke ! This is a guy, who charges outrageous amounts to build a car ! Leaves NO confidence in the shops ability to produce a quality Hot Rod or Custom. I don't think his reputation, as one of the premiere Hot Rod builders in the USA, is benefitting from the nonsense that goes on in that shop. Reality or not, this guy doesn't build cars for peanuts...would you take your car there? Ya gotta wonder why he EVER agreed to the show in the first place ! As far as firing people goes, there's only a few guys there that are worth keepng anyway. IF, in fact, they're actual employees to start with.

Despite Coddington's rep among car people, the reason is obvious...$$$$, with a little ego thrown in.

Roger, I think they'd have to be paying him A LOT of money to compensate for the damage being done to his reputation as one of the premiere Hot Rod and Custom car builders on the Country.

Exactly, as you mentioned, otherwise why shoot yourself in the foot.

On the flip side, I honestly can't think that many of these cable channels have enourmous budgets. Perhaps Boyd is just being himself as much as possible and before tv all we really saw or cared about was his finished product(s).
