Form follows function....

...The new mid-engine design is not so much about styling as it is about performance. The new C8 is already beyond the performance levels of previous Corvettes without getting into Z06 & ZL1 designations, and has fully exceeded Corvette's initial expectations.

As a three-time Corvette owner, I'm not, personally, thrilled with its overall styling. Mid-engine design calls for short front ends and the Corvette has, heretofore, always adhered to the long front end, short rear end styling ques. The current Ferrari mid-engine layout line has a better overall balance than does the new Vette and I'm betting that the subsequent C9 will reflect that. It'll be fun to watch, one way or another.

I love everything about it, JMHO, I think the styling shines above and beyond several exotic nameplates with performance that matches or exceeds some. I can't wait to see the higher performing models. I think it'll send some exotic makers back to the drawing board. Never owned one but had friends with them so I've rode in a few, the one I liked best was my friend Ron's '68 427, that thing was a beast.

Phil, I've seen it in person and had a chance to sit behind the wheel and in the passenger seat. Have to say that the interior is world class now. Everything you touch is leather, carbon fiber or aluminum. That row of buttons down the middle of the console between the driver and passenger are plastic and I'm OK with that.

Performance-wise, as Tony says, the thing is a beast and this is just the base Stingray. You can bet that the Z06 and ZR1 versions (maybe even the Grand Sport) will out-perform just about anything the others can throw at it.

As for the design, Tony echos what I've been saying this past year - form follows function. Mid-engine makes the 'Vette look completely different than all 'Vettes before it. I think Tadge & Company did a great job. To me, and only my opinion, it still has the hallmarks of Corvette in the design.

I have a C7 Z51 and have no plans to get rid of it. It's a great car - both performance and ergonomics. You can drive for hours and not get fatigued. If I do decide to spring for a C8, it'll probably be an addition to the fleet. I'll keep my C7.

Can't wait to take one for a drive. That will be the deciding factor on whether or not I end up getting a C8.

Well, since you asked...

I've owned 4 Corvettes (1972 small block coupe, 1971 big block coupe, 2008 convertible and the 2012 Grand Sport 3LT convertible I have now).Purists may lament the passing of round tail lights, as they did the passing of retractable headlights. Not me. I love the C7 and now the C8 designs. I'm not going to test drive a C8 because I'd end up with a car payment again.photo no longer available

I actually really like the C7 Corvette! It’s the first Corvette in years I wouldn’t mind owning!

It first caught my eyes when I was in Sunny Isles Florida a few years ago. It looked very sharp and almost exotic and the interior was much upgraded compared to many of the previous years. The 2020 ehh not so much. I find long hood short deck proportions on a coupe appealing. Even on personal Luxo boats.

I agree Tony...As a long time Corvette owner the styling leaves me cold.

While the rear view is OK..the front view is lacking to say the least. Ferrari as you mentioned has done the integration much better than the GM stylists IMHO...we will see what the C9 looks like!

I've been a long time Corvette fan since I laid eyes on a neighbor's '56............

I've owned 2 Vettes during my retirement. My first was a C5. I replaced it with a 2013 C6 Grand Sport Coupe which I still own and enjoy. It's pictured below. The New C8 is gorgeous, fast and a technological wonder. What's not to like?? Can't believe those that are waiting for the C9.

I said "The New C8 is gorgeous, fast and a technological wonder." It's also a great value..........

pricewise, no other sports car can match all that the C8 Corvette offers for the starting price of $60,000.
