@jack-dodds .................thank you Jack.....your tale has once again graced these pages with true,as you like it,crime......here`s a free photo for your mantel
My Mom has seen every episode and keeps a log of all of them... she's almost 88yrs old and we talk every week bout the episode she watched.
Steve
hello Steve.....your mother has very good taste in her entertainment selections....I watch thru the series every four years or so....my posting theme is from Columbo Ep41:Beef with Wimpy.....it`s the episode in which Lt Frank buys a sandwich on the way to the crime scene only to find that Wimpy is about to elevate his criminality to the felony level......the closing scene where Columbo sends the REAL criminal off to the slammer was a heads-up for pork barrel politicians everywhere
Politician references aside......I had mixed feelings about that episode JayBee. Sure it was great to see the investigative expertise displayed by the lieutenant in putting Arnold's sociopathic second cousin Carmine Ziffel in the frame (so to speak) for trying to set up gullible Wellington Wimpy to take the fall. I also liked that he sent Carmine Zee off to the slammer in a mint SS 396 El Camino instead of a smelly stock truck....a bit of class displayed there IMO. However I did think it was a bit of a cheap shot that Columbo made sure Carmine's luggage was made from pigskin. Bit of a needless "thumbing of the nose" if you ask me.

I had reservations about that saga JayBee....it was gritty and sure not pretty......but, as you say, it was "true as you like it" crime and the public had to be told.
Thanks for the free photo btw, it's a keeper. You do realize that is the last snapshot of Will Shoemaker's abusive son-in-law taken before he went missing? Ah, but that's another story....
@jack-dodds ......had the "luggage" borne the intended tattoo "rosebud", as the screenwriter had intended, it would have carried more weight with the critics.......Proctor and Gamble had said, succinctly,"NO"

@john-barry Quite right JayBee. When P&G dropped their commercial sponsorship negotiations for this series proposal their legal team curtly responded "That's all folks!"
I`ll try to nail down an answer tomorrow.....in the meantime we should ask Frank if his look of consternation has anything to do with the outsized FG
Pete : I made an effort to capture supporting evidence on the (size can really matter)issue.....I gathered the pair of trucks,my tripod and Nikon, poked my nose outside......realizing that exposure to actual OUTSIDE might cause me to deep-fat fry within moments, I closed the door quickly behind me and took a moment to catch my breath.....no irrefutable truth will be forthcoming today
@geoff-jowett ......the slimier the the perp acted, early on in the episode, the more you were tempted to pop some corn, and take the phone off the hook
Ain't it da truth; ain't it da truth!! We have the entire Columbo series and special movies on DVD and watch them, at least, once a year. He ALWAYS got the perp, slimy or not. Well, except one time and one time only, the killer was allowed to skate.

Close; but it was the "Forgotten Lady". The murderer was played by Janet Leigh. She offed her husband but since Columbo found out she had but three weeks or so to live, and her friend & show biz partner took the blame for her, Frank went along with the plan to juggle the truth for three weeks or so.
....it`s a shame they couldn`t have written a few lines for the Rigby girl, but the premise sounds interesting.....I can envision the glint in Frank`s eye as he has to justify his decision......it`s on-tap for this evening`s view-a-thon

That's the one. And thinking back on it it was no more than a couple months that she had. An inoperable brain aneurysm.

That Columbo...what a guy. A real piranha pursuing the bad guys but a soft touch for a murdering dame goin' down for the count medically.
