John, it looks like they took the tail of the golden hawk and put some bugeyes on it. Great photos thanks

I love the color combinations on this model.  I always thought that the front end of this Packard looked like a catfish.  Makes you wonder who approved this design and why.  Were they trying to put Packard out of business?

They got what they wanted from the purchase of Packard and were phasing the marque out. This was about the survival of Studebaker who was never really able to advance beyond their 1953 platform and continued to successfully mix and match body panels for a decade to freshen their Hawk lineup. This Packard Hawk was just an attempt to market a more luxurious, upscale Hawk and trying to make it look slightly different.

Very nice Packardbaker.  I do prefer the red version, though.  I always wondered why these had the vinyl trim on the exterior of the window sills.  Come to find out that wasn't just for styling but also to serve as a cushioned armrest for when you were cruising and wanted to look cool.  Not a bad idea.

Well they certainly overachieved on the "slightly different" look.  Lol.  My take would be "unsightly different."

@al_dorado [PIC] Those armrests were popular on prewar roadsters.
