Thanks for the pics & review, Tony, you answered all the questions I had re this model. Have to have this one, it is one great looking model. The color is absolutely georgous,:x not to mention what looks like as greatly a detailed motor as I can recall seeing on a diecast model
Just ordered it Tony. Thanks for the great review as usual.
Amazing!
Geez! Another phone call to DM..............
I was payment-free for one month and now I'll have 3 must-haves on order from DM. That Daytona is gorgeous.
Thanks Tony, You give me better gifts than my wife! This Charger appears to be even
Better than the last! I was worried the paint would be wrong, but it
appears spot on for that color, which is indeed very satisfying to
look at. Almost like candy. Right off the bat, I can see they really
upgraded this older model (this I'm sure is still based on the
original yellow R/T from years ago, so I forgive the full frame, and
dog leg hinges). The roof pillar Charger script is in the correct
location FINALLY. And they did trim rings on the wheels! I figured
they would use the same old '68 chrome wheels, but they did the
correct brushed trim rings, very nice. And the whitewalls would
also be more correct for one of these. the civilian models tended to
get whtever the dealer got, and buyers did'nt always like the red
line tires. Body shape on these has always been great, and the
correct jack is a surprise, and Tony, your right, they should have
two jacks, Yes, love the wing supports, this shows a real honest
desire to please us diehard detailaholics/Mopar lovers. I guess DM
is taking some kind of detail enhancement drugs? It goes on. Tony,
did yuo look at that 440! they added factory marker number
notations on the front of the valve cover!! Like they did on the
assembly line. And the linkage has the passing gear mechanism,
as well as the throttle springs! So far the only thing that isn't nearly
spot on is the brake booster it's a bit too big for a 440(must be a
tooling issue from the hemi version). Correct "440 Magnum" air
cleaner Pie plate, And wire spring hose clamps. Those were'nt on
my hemi Daytona?
Inside, they made changes too.yes correct black belts, dash,
console, and carpet with white interior-are you watching FM??
Tony, did they add the tiny "P R N D 3 2 " for the auto on the
console? It also has the wood grain sport steering wheel, all the
other Charger's except the SE have the lower cost versions. Now I
have a deluxe optioned muscle Mopar in my collection, and
special for me finally a DM 440. This means they can make my 440
GTX anytime, and they have the detail where I like it.
DM, I'll take two, and thank you, I like pickles.
Tony, your thoughts- The pictures look like the ride height on this new Daytona are way, way better? Is it? the White one was too high, the 500 was slghtly
better, but in your pics this one looks perfect? What dya think?
One thing I noticed...
...me being the complete amateur that I am...was the huge ugly body gap in between the nosepiece and the front fender of this model. So I looked for the exact same car image on google in 1:1...and yup...there it is...exact same big ugly body gap. In fact I think the DM's gap is not big enough...lol.
Cool looking model, I like the color. Are those wheels correct the one I saw on google had slightly different wheels...
GTX question ...what was the lowest ci engine that came in the GTX in 1970? My mom had one. She hated it...she always complained that she could never just roll off the line...as soon as she even touched the gas pedal she was going 30 MPH...lol. My dad bought it for her but in a few years she traded it for a 190 hp '75 Cutlass 🙁 So that ended up being the first car I ever drove instead of the GTX...
You should just get a squawk box link to DM.: " Collector to parts - - Send over part number 00-XXX"
Wheels look like they came off the LE '69 Dodge Charger SE. Will go good with the white one.
Motor Trend called the GTX "The best all around quarter miler of all" in '69
When you mean smallest, in cu. in. that's the 426
Hemi. If you mean smallest in horsepower, that's the 1971 440
Magnum at 370 hp. The GTX was only built with 440 four barrel
375 hp(lowered to 370 in 1971) 440 six barrel 390 hp. and Hemi
426 at 425hp. 1971 440 6bbl's were reduced to 385hp in 1971.
Hemi's never had power reductions, and stayed at 425hp factory
rating. I would think your DAd bought it for your mom, but really for
himself? It was tame enough for everyday driving, but it did show
it's attributes with little prompting.
Yes, needed to make nose cone removable, as once hit, they were trashed
Yes, with a 440 engine option you got 14 in wheels. the top line
wheels available were these chrome road wheel with brushed
aluminum trim rings. DM nailed these well, they look better than
the chrome (for '68)versions they used on the yellow R/T.
The car you saw must have been a Hemi. these had 15 inch
wheels, and most came with steel wheels, and the doggie disch
hubcaps. although some opted to install the nicer road wheels
even though smaller at the dealer. Chrysler also made a special
cast aluminum wheel that was 15 inch, but was recalled before
being installed on very many cars.
'67 GTX
I've got a '67 Hemi GTX,
which I bought from the original owner in 1976.
I've restored it over the years and now for the most part
I just don't drive it much,
just have it stored in my parent's garage.
If you look at the additional photos in the review,
Check out the inspection marks in the engine compartment...
D.M.'s detail is unbelievable.
