Delahaye repair tips #2

Here is another technique to repair undone photo-etched trim. I have used this technique before to reglue the hinges of the Automodello's Graber.
When the trim is just barely raised, it is difficult to put cyanoacrylate glue underneath without messing up. I my case the trim was just bulging in the middle and the gap was ~ 1/64 inch. The picture speaks for itself, but basically, the masking tape was applied as close as possible to the trim, then a piece of paper was dipped in super glue (this time liquid), the paper piece was slid behind the bulging trim, then removed and pressure applied to the trim for 30 sec. Finally the masking tape was quickly removed to avoid bonding at the edge. The result was perfect.q

The picture was taken during the dry test, so no glue was used yet.

Chav, thank you. Mine is in the closet, since I have not been able to fix the trim under the dash.

I will try this and see what happens. I did have some side trim come loose and was able to fix it.

Tom, my dash was undone too, the central oval panel ...

... along with the surrounding metal trim is a whole single piece. If you can post a picture of the loose trim, I may be able to give you some tips based on what I did.

Another thing to watch while detailing this car ...

There are 5 small metal "dots" behind the doors on each side, representing the top fasteners. I managed to loose 3 of them and their glue is so weak that I just had to remove all of them to save them. I do plan to change them with more appropriately shaped pieces and I am searching for the right solution. My advice however is to be very careful when touching the tonneau door area behind the seats and doors.

If you have hard time to figure out what Ii am talking about, look at the left upper corner of the picture below. One fastener was already missing when tthe picture was taken ...

Here is how the fasteners of the real car look like.

Hi Chav, I will muster up some courage and see if I can fix the under dash trim. My model was also missing one of the silver dots, and another came off in the box. Let me know if you find an appropriate substitute.
