Diecast anyone?
I don't post often, I read the comments everyday, and I have been a dues paying member for many years. Is this board now an automtive trivia site? Is "diecast" still spoken here? Do many of these inquirys belong in the Lounge? Maybe I'm confused! thanks...
Hey John, I think most of us here have the same passion for the real thing as we have for the scale versions, they go together like meat and potatoes. I have noticed if there isn't anything "hot" in diecast to talk about, then someone will post an interesting fact, question or pic of a 1:1. I invite them, for I am a car guy.
Just my guess....
... but I think some of the "transition" you speak of is correct. The Bulletin Board is primary for 1:24 scale. I think that because WCPD is now out of the diecast manufacturing business, only DM and FM remain in 1:24 scale. With the economy being what it is, even the Big Two is offering fewer new releases. For example, there's only so much conversation that can be discussed about the '49 Olds (and it HAS been dissected to death). With less new releases, there's less conversation about them. Also, the regular posters are trying to play "nicey nice" so extra effort is made to not ruffle feathers or post negative opinions. Conversely, the conversations are gravitating to 1:1 cars since due to the limitations of discussing little ones; at least in 1:24 scale.
I don't know if anything I've said in this post makes sense, but it's just my take.
My passion for 1:1 cars is what attracts me to diecast cars.......
If it were not for my love of 1:1 cars, I doubt very much if I would give a care about diecast.

The Forums are fascinating to a Brit.
I have learnt a huge amount about: the US take on the car - both small and big; politics; innate pride in being an American; a very different take on humour and understatement and that's just to start with. Surprisingly there is very little about rock and country music which has surprised me. Now there's an invitation!
John, if we only talked diecast we wouldn't be talking a whole lot most of the time. By looking at/posting pictures of real cars, or talking about the state of the auto industry, or whatever - we are staying in communication with people who share our interests. I say "Sit back and enjoy". Who knows, maybe one day DM or FM will produce a 1:24 of a Pic(k) of the day, and , BOY, that'll lead to some fun talk. Hang in there, my friend.
John - 99.9% of us members love the discussions just the way they are - Diecast and a little bit of
EVERYTHING ELSE:D

All of the Above. Plus, It's Summer: Car Show /Cruise/Museum Visit Season... And We Like to Share
We do discuss 1/24 on a regular basis.
Most of us love the 1:1 pics (I love it when someone goes to car show and post, or when Manny shows us what these car may look like off the road), I am one, and I think our love of these models comes from our experiences, wishes, likes and dislikes of the gamut of automobile experiences.
We buy these little beauties because of these experiences.
But I do agree that some of the stuff posted here is more appropriate for the lounge. The trouble with that is that very few of those who post on the main BB go to the lounge!
The lounge is a place for a small few who joke and heck... act like a friendly group who are in a virtual lounge, shooting the breeze or arguing there points of view over a drink.
There are only a few who post there.
One big reason for the lounge was to divert political discussion from the BB, but in the Lounge, even that is looked down on.
The Lounge was created for Happy BDs, births, deaths and a lot of personal stories. But again, only a few post there.
My biggest annoyance here on the BB is the constant I WISH the mints would produce this car.
I know that a lot of people like these WISH discussions, but I am tired of them. The mints will produce cars that they think will produce a profit (gee, I think so they can stay in business). People get so upset that they don't produce what they want, but they don't see the big picture.
Sorry, to drone on.
You are correct Sir!
As the late Ed McMahon used to say. You hit the nail on the head.
Frankly, I'd like to see more diecast stuff and less non-diecast stuff....
...I do love pics of the 1:1 cars, but sometimes, it is just overwhelming. I mean, if you can take pics of real cars, why not treat us to pics of your diecast collection and the cars in it? I would love to see more pictures of diecast cars in collections. Either single pics or collection pics.
That is why I love Richard Sufficool's pics. What a treat! They are outstanding but photos don't all have to be works of arts like Rich's. And there doesn't have to be lots of new stuff out. There are plenty of old diecast favorites that I would love to see pics of. I no longer have a camera, so I can't join in.
But the collectors who go to car shows and take tons of pics of the real cars, I love to see the pics, but I would also like to see pics of your diecast collection. I mean, other than Tony and Rich, who else posts pics of diecast here on this forum??
Good point Patty. I am with you on that one
I posted about the 1:1 pictures awhile back and people got all upset. The thing I think is a waste of time is when people surf the net and copy pictures and post them. What's the point? Anybody can do that. I enjoy seeing pictures that people post that they take. It has more meaning beccause it expresses their likes. We must be careful though in collection posting. Remmember what you put up is for the world to see and there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there. It is remote but there are old rosters out in public domain.
Patty, I have on a rare occasion. But my collection is not as diverse as y'all
Expect for a few CMs & Ferraris..... all of you have seen my li' cars. And at this point in time, I'm interested in starting a new theme or brand-name of diecast.
Other than waiting for the DM '69 GTO Royal Bobcat to arrive..... I ain't got much NEW to say.
SO JOHN.... that's my reply.
As a nation, Paul, we've never really recovered from the British Invasion.
Eric Clapton is still God, right?

That's a real good point you have made Patty. I wish my collection of 1:24 was more diverse. I don't think anyone wants to see more Corvettes.LOL:)) I personally do have a few other things that maybe I should dig out and photograph for everyone's enjoyment (or not) I'll have to get busy on that. Be forwarned though. My pics won't come anywhere near as good as what you and others post.
