Tough one Clarke.....

One of my favorites is DM's LE 1970 Olds Cutlass Convertible....followed closely by DM's LE 1960 Chevy Impala..and most recently FM's new LE 1966 Shelby Cobra (thanks Randy)....have a feeling the D4C 1939 Ford that arrives today will be a favorite also.

Ed, my buying spree has included buying a non-precision -level '57 Chevy stake truck ( Speccast-$26.95 ), from Diecast Direct..don't know what it's like, because, I didn't get it yet!! Trying to get through this buying spree by buying a few cheaper guys. Also bought a panel delivery from them, around the same price; a petroleum signed truck for that phantom Texaco " diorama " in the " Coming soon " category.=;

Nice fellas, too, Doug; I'm slowly getting more interested in those '30 Caddy types, since I saw a mid -thirties Caddy at a country car show last year. There were a few other old " big luxo models ", like Packards, too, so, seeing them 1/1, caused me to " better appreciate " the workmanship of these big boats. We don't see a lot of the " old guys " in car shows in these parts; mostly, muscle these days.

Clarke, I don't dislike the '60 Impala but I like the '59 a lot better.

Maybe I should get the '60 Convertible too so I can compare.

I'd also like to have a '58 Impala but I don't like dogleg hinges.

I hear the '59's a nice piece, 4 sure. It's on my " wish list "

I have had a '58 Impala turquoise convertible, and, it's been a fave. It doesn't compare to this day's tech at all. It just has been one of the ones I keep liking. In fact, I,again, recently, made a deal to buy a '58 silver blue coupe, which I've wanted for years. Tried to get a bronze one at a recent auction, and, I think it went for $175, or so. I stopped at 112, as I remember. The coupes are rarely about, at least I don't see too many at D4C, and I don't shop E-Bay, which limits my scope considerably.
P.S....you can't see the doglegs too much when the doors are closed...just a friendly " tip ".LOL Smile

The one that still makes me stop and look is the FM Edsers Bugatti

I went years not knowing even what color that fantastic car was - only black and white pictures of it were available. Then I heard about the French museum in Mulhouse building a replica on an original chassis and I finally got to see it on a trip to SW Germany. Talk about jaw dropping! Then FM announces they are going to build a model of it. I was first in line. I admire it every day. An astonishing car, and a superb replica. Oh how I wish FM had continued to use the chassis to do the other Royales. The Kellner coupe and the Weinburger victoria, in particular, would be fantastic models.

Others on the honor roll ... the D4C '30 Cadillac, the FM Franay Bentley, the DM '57 New Yorker coupe. And I smile whenever I walk by the new D4C Ford with trailer. What a captivating image!

My favorite would be the 1941 DM Chevrolet Special Deluxe Cabriolet ... This was the first car I collected ... this is what started the addiction back in 1998 . This was a Xmas present from my dad, why he picked this particular car out for me, I never asked and really don't care. And it is for this reason it will always be my favorite. It does sort of stick out with the Corvettes and Muscle Cars. But when I look at it, I remember all those memories of my dad. The great things about it is that I can recall these memories as often as I wish ... "A happy memory never wear out."

Paul's Model Art SSKL

This race car was issued in 1992 and the detail was second to none. I know that over ten years ago I had discussions with others about the fact that this was the same mold that DM used a year earlier, then again in 1997.

While the mints were putting out cars with thick wired wheels and plastic seats, PMA was doing what we expect now from all offerings. PMA's other cars are top notch, too.

Paul's issue in 1992 had real wire---not photo etched---wheels and used real leather on the seats and the engine belt. DM used the real leather in their 1997 version, but the wheels, though nice, were plastic wires. PMA's rims, too, were far more realistic.

Creative Master International issued two versions of this in 2000, I believe with the same mold used by DM and PMA. These red and white versions are similar to DM's version with leather on the seats and belt, but the seats don't have the definition that the DM and PMA had and again the plastic wires. The one thing that CMI had over both DM and PMA was the photo etched MB symbol on the radiator cap. DM's was plastic and PMA didn't have one.

I have never undone the bonnet belt on any of these so I have never seen the motor's detail first hand. I have seen pics of them and was impressed, though it was so long ago and the memory doesn't define the detail.

Lastly, there are two other versions that I would like to own. One is a red PMA (at least I think it was PMA). I had an opportunity to purchase this one ten years ago and (as I bite my lip) TURNED IT DOWN!!!!! Dan Duma owned it.

The other is the first version of the DM, issued in 1991. I have never seen this car and have never heard of any discussion about it. Unless it's that elusive red one.
