For 1951, Hudson increased the displacement of their flathead 6 to the high compression H-145 308 cid. At 145 HP, it was the most powerful 6 cylinder in the world. With an aluminum head and the 'Twin H' 2X1bbl carburetors, it was a killer on the early NASCAR circuit. One key to its success was its 'step down' chassis with it lower center of gravity that allowed the car to corner at full throttle. A fully optioned Hudson Hornet Club Coupe approached $3000.00 but its performance and passenger comfort merited the expense. I like the optional sun visor on this FM model as they were very popular back then in New Jersey where it was against the law to have the upper wind screen tinted and AC was both expensive and power robbing.
Great model of a car that provided some early wonderful NASCAR racing in a much more elemental way than today.
Love the car, photos and your full explaination about the car. Keep them coming.
Ah yes memories of the D4C club. Have it, love it. thanks Rich.
