I always liked the shape of the '71 GTX, so when FM released an LE of the 440 6-Pak variant
, I jumped on it. When I got it home, I was extremely disappointed with the model... so much that I sent it back. The overall shape seemed fine. The white interior was OK but the dash and painted areas had poor color separation... not a deal breaker. What drove me nuts was the large door panel gaps such that the white interior was visible with the doors closed. What I really hated was all the lenses on the headlamps, fog lamps and side markers. They were all simply designed with large locator pins into the body which left hideous large dark "bullseyes" at their centers. Back in '08, I never really expressed my feelings on the board as we were a rather testy lot back then and I was afraid arguments would break out. As a group, we seemed to have mellowed out, so 14 years later I thought I'd ask for comments on this model as to was I too harsh back then or not.
I have never seen this one in person, but I really like the 1971 Plymouth GTX, so I most likely would still love to have this one and any faults would probably not be deal-breakers. I did have the excellent '71 GTX in 1/18 scale from Ertl for some time, but, unfortunately zamac corrosion began to affect it and took it from me.
I have the yellow one Rich, and the overall interior is very poor, particularly the dash as you mentioned and yes the black headlight spots are annoying. Yet they sometimes bring big bucks on ebay.
@geoff-jowett Seems like I should have kept it to sell later. As always, who knew?
@rich-sufficool, I'm with you on loving this version of the Plymouth. I never really get that specific about how the gaps are and if this or that is right. I like the image and happy to have one. With that being said I have all 5 colors/versions of the 71's. Black, Maroon, Green, Blue and Orange.
I have the maroon version and agree with your thoughts Rich. Personally I have never liked the 1/1 grill which looks like lips to me.
