Maybe it is a loan, but GM NEEDS to clean up their act first by reducing the outrageous salaries and bonuses for top management and start reducing the number of models and brands that are mere duplicates of one another.
Mr. Delbuck...you and I are on the same page.

I am not emotional about the big three.............
they digged their own grave many years ago. To fix their problem, GM and Ford have to sell their foreign operations and the workers to accept salaries and benefits reductions to save their jobs. As reported, $73.00 wage and benefits rate is insane compared to $48.00 for the foreign auto manufacturers.
As for Chrysler, I don't see any other option than to close their doors and sell the brands that are salable.

Not unless they have internet displayed at the Country Club.....
It will never happen
I used to work in the corporate structure. Upper management create protective enclaves so when things go bad they still make money while the workers lose their jobs. If the auto industry goes down a few million people will lose their jobs not to mention all those in the support industries. More mortgages will default, more people will become homeless. Local, State and Federal governments will have less tax revenue and services will be cut. All this will keep the economy spiraling down the drain to oblivion.
Glen, I totally agree!
Unless you have a plan to "bail out" John Q Average-American, you may just be pushing down on the handle to flush this country down the drain. (No, there should be no give away, we need a way to earn a living)
Do I have a solution.....no. What are your children, grandkids, etc. going to survive on, welfare?
The way I see it is this
First off, to hell with the maga salary big shots that have more money right now then the average American will ever see in 20 lifetimes. How much is the UAW to blame for all of this too? If the big shots wanted in the past their UAW workers to make concessions, let them make the first move and give up their bonuses at least. Next let's learn from the past and history, use it as a valuable tool. Work on the strong points to make them stronger and the failures, prevent them from ever happening again and don't waste money. As they found out there wasn't an endless supply of it.
These are people with families, our friends, and someone that touches our lives even if they buy from where we work. It all connects and we will all pay the price, even the rich will. It will be time the government will tax the living daylights out of them to get money because the working man won't be working.
I was going to never post any of my views again and stick with cars on this forum, it's a nice escape from the real world, the kid in me. No matter what any of you voice your opinion on or how it boils down to this. You all care about America and what's right. As long as guys like you care, I know the future will only get better.
Last and most important I pray everyday and know God listens and is there for us.
In the workplace violence, will it rise?
Where's someone's breaking point, figuring they'll fix the problem themselves and get even with the company and it's managers.
It's curious that many (most?) seem to find management at fault...
...Sure, they've made some incredibly stupid decisions, but what about labor? Should we give them a pass? How can the UAW actually defend their 'Job bank' program, you know, the self serving and misleading program whereby laid off workers get paid 95% of their salary? How about those gold plated health care benefits? In a bail out, it would be the taxpayer who was actually paying for both of these absurd entitlements, esp. when the unemployment rate is 6% and there are, what?, like 80 million people without health care coverage of any kind? Is there anyone out there who can actually justify not only the existence of this nonsense of sitting around all day and get paid for it, but for US, the taxpayer, actually pay it?! How about paying for those health care benefits, should WE pay for others' benefits?! I need a new kitchen floor, anyone want to chip in? Can we all say 'Oink'?
Listen, the only solution here is Chapter 11, which will remove management, return zero for the stock holders, and scrap these ridiculous labor contracts. Let the Gov become the receiver and guarantee waranties and such, but it's time to recognize that a complete reorg is in order here. It's not such a bad thing, it might save the patient.
('Job banks' how do I apply for that?! LOL!)
