Help RE: pictures and Windows Vista...
Perhaps some computer savy person can help me here. I like to keep detailed pics of my diecast models and other collectibles. I never had any issues with windows XP. Recently had to get a new Dell and Vista was forced on me.
For one...when I view my pics in the windows explorer directory which I like to do because its easy...they now all have an odd tint. I have tried every adjustment on the screen and the display driver..nothing fixes it. Is this a common issue with a common fix? The problem is fixed if I open each pic up separately in Office picture viewer...but of course thats not practical.
Also, I keep all my FM pics together so its a big list. If I rename something it immediately sorts the pics and makes me jump from the next picture needing to be renamed to the location of the renamed one. Very annoying.
Why would they mess with something that worked fine to start with? I wont even mention the new Word.
I was going to buy a new lap Top but when it could only be Vista I said NO!
Hope the old one keeps working. I'm a Neophite on the computer so trying to learn something new is a real problem. The explanation seems to be written in a Foriegn Language when you get into it. How in the hell did that happen. Just speak and write English! Where was the push button 1 for English because obviously I missed it. I'm scared to have to replace even my PC so we know what I will use for as long as I can.
No tint on mine.
I had Vista forced on me also when I bought my new Dell. I had problems with just everything you could think of. I saved $700 by purchasing this thing through our company. I spent over $1000 getting it working.
I'm no expert,but...
couldn't you buy an XP program at Best Buy or the like and load it on your new computer?
If the pictures look ok when opened....
then I suspect it's actually a problem with the video card, more specifically the driver for the video card. Even though it's a new computer, it doesn't mean it has the latest video drivers. Go on line and see if the manufacture of the card (not the computer) has a newer driver available.
As for the question of installing XP, yes you can. But there are a few things you need to be aware of. First and foremost is not all new equipment have XP drivers available, since they are being used on Vista machines, not XP operating systems. Second, unless you are computer literate enough to go through some complicated steps to make a dual boot computer (Vista and XP), you have to completely remove Vista to be able to install XP and have it run - again, assuming you can get XP drivers for the hardware. That means having to reload another software you have put on the computer since you got it, and any software that came with the computer probably won't work right, if at all because it's designed for Vista. Third, while I am no fan of Vista, it does offer superior security over XP, and many of the earlier issues users complained about (myself included) have been fixed with Vista Service Pack 1.
Nope they replaced the inventory with Vista about a year ago so the stores don't have it
On top of that Microsoft doesn't make XP anymore. Your only option is learn Vista which is loaded with PROBLEMS. Bill has retired and some other bozo now runs the company I wonder how long it will take to falter since the Brains left.
My option is Don't FXXK with a Good Thing If it ain't broke don't fix it!
Michael, I have two Dell Vistas and pictures look fine to me. I can take pictures from my old Dell and Gateway computers with Windows XP and they are the same.
I have fewer problems with Vista than the whacky stuff that used to happen with XP.
Every once in a while the XP would drop out in the middle of something and restart. Vista doesn't have any problems like that.
Give it a chance, we all seem to resist anything new. My only problem was one HP printer wouldn't work when Vista first came out but someone here gave me a website to pick up the necessary driver and the printer works fine. I could never get that printer to work with XP but it works great with Vista.
USAF 1958-62
I haven't had any problems either
Just a learning process, had to change a few habits, was a little frustarting at first. But, I'm just another old fogy who hates change!! :O
I've been using Vista for a year. I would NEVER go back to XP. No pic issues.
My photos look just fine. No color issues at all.
I waited like most before upgrading to Vista from XP Pro. I did the install right by having new hardware and I insured that all of my software was compatible. I had zero issues. The install went perfect. I had a good number of system lockups (blue screens) with XP Pro and none with Vista (Ultimate). I absolutely love it. So much so that I installed Vista Business on all of our office computers. The staff love it. I also just installed SP1. So for me, Vista is, well, the ultimate. LOL! So after over a years experience with Vista, I would absolutely never want to go back to XP. The only reason I would not go to Vista would be if my hardware was older and I knew some of my apps weren't compatible. JMO. And personal experience. ๐
I have 4 computers with 1 running Vista. I like it best, and ...
have no problems with the picture viewer at all. Vista is much better than given credit for.
