Who doesn't want a model of the iconic Jaguar XKE? Well, Franklin Mint jumped on these models very early with a pair of 1961 series 1 3.8L coupe and cabriolet. Normal for that era is dog leg hinges, thick plastic wire wheels, a waxy featureless plastic dash and upholstery with 2 dimensional applique instrument clusters. The finish is nice w/o orange peel but the panel gaps are excessive. Like the early FM Corvettes, I hoped that DM might offer upgraded E-Types but that never happened either. The only other offering that I know of in 1/24 is from old Bburago tooling. Ebbro would have also been a good choice but their line up and focus is more tuned to Japanese cars. I still display the pair, but not prominently.
Hachette/Whitebox/Salvat does some really nice versions in 1/24, although curbside.😊
I have both and feel like, with all of their faults, they still fill an important place in my collection.
@bob-jackman Bob, I agree with you. I also have both, but not the Harrod's version as shown. I always thought that they were very well done. I always liked the coupe more than the convertible, and the pictures seem to show that more emphasis in re-creating the model was put into the coupe. The interior just looks so much better.
@carsman1958 John, my roadster is like yours, not the Harrod's version. Also I agree the coupe is more refined
