Jay I know you mean no harm and haven't been around D4C for awhile
But "self promotion" as far as I know isn't permitted on the BB. Just an FYI. Best of luck with your auction!
Phil...excuse me for asking...I thought it was ok to give fellow collectors a heads up. I do know that we can't direct members to other auction sites. I wanted to post a pic of a model I just bought and didn't have time to take a pic...yeah, my fault for being impatient...so I copied a link to another auction site that showed the model I bought. And I was reminded that that was prohibited. I felt stupid but it was a simple faux pas on my part. I fully understand the reasoning. Can someone please clear this up because I'm wanting to sell some models and I thought I'd like to 'promote / give a first shot' to fellow collectors here at the Legacy Forums. Thanks guys!
This is copied from the Legacy Auction Rules...what means 'own site'?
Sellers can also advertise on their own site the auction of their item(s). Use the URL below, where ITEMNUMBER refers to the number we assign your item.

Read the "Guidelines" above, The way read it its ok to promote an auction on this site

Auction Gripes
Our forums may not be used to vilify an individual with whom you may have engaged in an auction transaction, either through our Auctions or any other. Why?
ZONE AUCTIONS, unlike any other, are supervised by one or more Auctioneers, i.e. real humans. These real humans attempt to resolve problems between buyer and seller. Note, we didn't say guarantee. But we try. The appropriate response if you feel you've been "taken" is to notify our Auctioneer, who will investigate and try to effect an equitable resolution.
On occasion, our Auctioneer will decide that one party appears to be at fault and will remove that party's Auction privileges for a period of time he deems appropriately severe.
By the way, that's one of the reasons to prefer selling on the Zone Auctions.
OTHER AUCTIONS:
If you have a gripe on eBay, resolve it on eBay. They allow you to post negative comments against the other party to your auction. Seems ineffective to us, but it must have sounded good to you at the time. If you used yet another auction source, and were unhappy with the outcome, well... just don't use our forums as your sounding board. The visitors to our forums do not want to become embroiled in a controversy over a transaction that neither they, nor we were party to.

This may help. Try clicking on 'more' above, left under "Selling Items?" The 2nd paragraph clearly states that self promotion is prohibited. It reads as follows:
"Posts that promote auctions on the Diecast Zone or any other website are also not permitted. If you have a special item that merits extra attention, email the Auctioneer jay@diecast.org and he will consider promoting it with the Auctioneer's Comments on our homepage and/or on the Auction pages."
I think this rule has been around since 2001.
Thank you, Ryan...
That was my impression also.... the '54 Corvette in question is, indeed, an extremely rare bird. In fact, they were sold out even before the actual model was available. These were commissioned by Mint Models....
Phil is correct. Unless a special, OK'd reason to do so, no...
...self promotion of auctions is supposed to occur.
Seems there are two conflicting rules
I read "other than" in the excerpt from the "Guidlines" below to mean this site. No matter, I have no dog in this fight
"The advertising or posting of private sales, retail sites or auction sites other than Diecast Zone auctions and Legacy Motors is prohibited."
Thank-you for clearing this up. So as I understand it...I can't say I've got some models in the auction. Well, I for one, always check the auction site every day or two just to see if there's anything I'd like. And I've gotten 4 beautiful models at real good prices. These are models that I wouldn't have searched out on my own but only bid / bought because I wanted to support fellow collectors here at Legacy.
True. Now if you are about to put up a 'special' model..
...let one of us know and we'll highlight it either here, on the auction site or both, if we agree on its uniqueness.
Also, keep in mind, that when searching for a certain model you can always check in here and we'll email you when it comes to auction.
Ryan I can see why your confused I had to re-read it to make sense
By PRIVATE SALE it means that even if it on auction at D4C but its your own auction (thus private auction) you are NOT supposed to give any heads up or "self promotion". If say Tony has a rare Proto type and is selling it as a D4C auction then HE can give a heads up on the BB as its a D4C auction. The same if legacy was selling something on the D4C Auction then that item COULD be self promoted. But if ME or YOU or any other person who might have a diecast for sale on our auction is NOT supposed to "self promote" Hope this is a little more clear now.
I'm not confused, that's how I read it
