This one never received the credit it deserved either as a 1:1 or a 1:24.

PIC....Not only was the 1:1 unappreciated in its day, but it almost scuttled the entire company.....
during the worst years of the Great Depression. It was only a crash program to redesign their more conventional Airstream lines in 1934 by Raymond Bel Geddes and Ray Dietrich that saved them. Here's one ya don't see every day....

Sharp '34 / great pics. A ground-breaking automobile 'throughout' - in ANY scale.

Great to see it in a nice condition... Thanks Marlowe...
People did and sadly probably always WILL resist change!
Everytime automobiles drastically change some embrace them, many RESENT the change! I've seen this happen in the 70s when cars became more "safe" and bumpers looked goofy, then in the late 70s, early 80s when cars were downsized and became boxy. Some LOVE the smaller, more efficient cars, but many thought they looked like card board boxes (myself included). Then came the 90s, the aero cars that looked like jelly beans! I think those left the longest lasting NEGATIVE impression people of the past few decades.
Ive said this MANY MANY times, and I think this was the sole reason AMC failed. IT had so many briallant ideas, bit sadly they were way ahead of their time and most people dont like to "dare to be different" I've found the majority of people are "ME TOO" types. Many of AMCs cars were pioneering automobiles with innovations and styling that was odd at the time. Take the AMC Eagle 4x4. It looked really weird back then. A 4 wheel drive station wagon??? High enough that you could just about lay under to change your oil? Nothing looked like it at the time, but it WAS highly practical and great if you lived in a snowy climate. Still people fought the change and it didnt do all that well. Today with some minor tweeks the Eagle would be right at home with many of the goofy styled cars we have. BMW x6, honda Crosstour, Nissan Juke, etc..
Marty, could you tell if that was a Chrysler or DeSoto?
SUPER cool! I really dig historic assembly line pix.
No, and mostly because I don't know the difference myself. ๐
Isn't that a 36 when they tried to make the front end more traditional looking?
