I'm in the process of making Paul Newman's last race car. A 2002 C4 Vette. My donor car is a 02 Maisto that I stripped, washed with soap and water, dried well, and let sit for a couple of ays before painting with Dupli-Color Perfect Match paint. I let the paint dry for 4 days before taping for the next color. After letting the second color set up I removed the tape and my first colored paint started to peel off when removing the tape. I've now stripped the car again but don't want to run into this problem again. I noticed when I started to re-strip the paint the color was just peeling off the diecast body. What can I do to fix this problem????? Please email me at tjciryak@yahoo.com or post here     Thanks guys

Sounds like you should use that specialty primer that bites into the metal. I use Eastwood's Self-Etching Primer.

@rich-sufficool I have dupli-coat filler primer here. Will that work? If not I may have to order from Eastwood

Tom, I have painted many 1/1 cars over the years. When painting over any bare metal you need to spray a coat of epoxy primer before applying the color coat. The epoxy primer, or metal etching primer, attaches to the metal in a way that the color coat can't.

Tom,  It also helps to "clean up" the casting with a fine scotch brite pad before priming.  It helps with paint adhesion.

After stripping:
