Paul O'Shea was a successful race drive in the US in the SCCA circuit and owed a good part of his success to Alfred Neubauer of Mercedes Benz who supplied him with various 300SLs in the mi-fifties even after Mercedes Benz quit racing on the European circuit due to the trauma of that gruesome crash that took so many lives. Neubauer's primary focus was to win races and to boost car sales in America. O'Shea had already won the SCCA National Championship in '55 and '56. He would win the third time in 1957 with this specially prepared. light weight 300SLS roadster (W198 ll) of which two were built.
