PICS: My WISH LIST 1:24 die-cast car #4
Have to admit it's the toothy grille that gravitates me to this car. At car shows they can be spotted from far away. This 47 DeSoto is simply one of the classic looking cars of the post-war era.
I would have loved to have any of the mints produce this incredible bulk of a machine in 1:24 scale die-cast, as it would certainly be an eye-catcher on my shelf.

We're real close, George. [PIC]
I'd love a '47 DeSoto Suburban Taxi. I loved those red/yellow Manhattan cabs I remember as a kid.

+1 I’m in George. I’d buy one if it was made and would fit nicely in my collection
So far George I'm with you. I'm very lucky because I collect other scales and have most of the images you have listed. Of course, if these were made in 1/24 scale I would definitely have to have them.
Now that Taxi ... I would buy .. Yes Sir
I am also with you George on all your desired 1/24 models but I also collect other scales.
Tell you what Richard...I'll meet you half way. I'll take a 4-door sedan, but not the Taxi.
Adding a Taxi to my collection would be adding a novelty car, and I can't do that. Nice looking Taxi though!

John and Bob...wish I could submit to collecting the 1:43 scale, but I just can't justify it. As it is I have nineteen 1:18 scale size, and that is only because I have them running across the very top (near the ceiling) of my car shelves. I've room for no more, so was very choosy with the ones I did add.
And know this is my hangup, but to me the 1:43 scale is just too small and toy like.
Guess I'm content with the 1:24 scale because that is what my plastic kits and promo's were (well 1:25) when I was a kid.

Hey, it's all about wishes, George....
I would say meeting half way wouldn't fulfill either wish.
I still see those taxis on those post war films on TCM.
You'd expect Cary Grant or Audrey Hepburn to be riding through Manhattan in one of these.
I guess it's also where we grew up also. My mother was a died in the wool Manhattanite.
I would love that DeSoto too. The convertible in your first photo is a stunning car every time I see it I can't help drooling just a bit, LOL!
As with some of the other posts, I too collect other scales, so I have some of these.
But in 1:24, they would have been awesome.

George your decision not to collect 1/43 scale saves you a lot of money.
You would not believe the amount, and variety, of cars being made in that scale. As to being toy like, today's offerings are far from that.
I'm in too. 4/4 so far.
I hear you Bob. Actually, I am aware of many of the 1:43 scale cars. Just have never pulled the trigger. And as for the "toy like" comment, I have a friend who has many of them, and I know they are very detailed. The comment is more my perception than reality.
But as you said, by not going there, I'm saving a ton of money.

Was just thinking about the same thing. I've been able to expand my collection by going into the 1:43 and in some cases the 1:32 scales
George if you did pull the trigger on 1:43, you would go nuts with what is available and sometimes very costly.
