I saw a similar situation on a personal level. I wrote a research book on American chess sets that is available on Amazon for around $64.00 (It is on the expensive side because it is a big book and it's all in color). Recently I saw someone offering a copy of it on ebay for something like $3600.00. The seller eventually came down to $93.00. Either way, I think I'm flattered, but come on, let's get real . . . .

I've been wanting this book for a long time. Prices are insane. But I keep looking.
Cadillacs of the Sixties by Roy A. Schneider. I have the 50s edition. He also did a 40s volume. Great text and photos.
