PICs - Sunday's Feature .....................

Found this on E bay the other week. Received it this past Friday. A DM Crown Victoria turned into a Convertible and repainted a brighter White. Also a cloth like boot. Hood & Trunk have been shaved off also. They did a pretty good job. I have a few ideas for it myself. Like Bucket seats, lower car, flipper hub caps, and another engine.

Hollis, nice photos. I do though, have a question. How do these collector cars remain valuable collectibles once they've been changed from their original condition?

My thinking is that once they've been modified and tampered with, they no longer have the "collector" value they were intended to be.

Now the above question asked, I realize that many who post here, are not interested in the value, as they didn't buy the cars with the thought of them being an investment. I'm one of them.

But surely, those who do buy the cars with the intent of them being an investment, wouldn't your "modified" cars tarnish the cars value?

George, if I may answer for Hollis ...

the value I find in tinkering car models is FUN. It is an investment in my well-being. I have a stressful job, tinkering diecast is one aspect of the hobby that helps me keep my sanity and has great return on investment. I find it actually more rewarding than accumulating diecast, moreover it helps me build skills to repair other models that I buy flawed but cheaper. It is like any other hobby one wastes money on.

My Two Cents

I have a significant number of DF/FM models that have been modified, some with paint changes and some with more extensive modifications. I have the changes done because I think the model would be more attractive in a different color or in the case of major modifications, because I would have liked to see the model produced by one of the mints. As for value, I have the modifications done not for any anticipation of an increase or decrease in value but for my own enjoyment. Although I have seen many modifications on Ebay of models that are selling for a lot more than the model would have sold for without being modified.

THANKS Chav and Jeff for your input to my question to Hollis. Seriously, it is my thinking too.

George like they said plus I have been making changes all my life. Love doing them. Plus I like having a car that nobody else has. Great talking about how they now look. Have sold some for a lot more then if they had been stock. Also lost my a$$ on some. But the money has not bothered me win or lose. I take great pride in my work if I can pull it off. It gives me something to do being retired besides just looking at them as most do.
They are still collector cars to me. No matter if I worked on them or someone else. They're my collector car.
