I thought I'd share the diecast display I built a while back. My house has a small wall between the entry way and the family room which was perfect to use as a display area. So, I cut a hole and widened the wall about one and half inches and had a glass shop cut tempered glass shelves and doors, along with side and bottom mirrors. The shelf bracketing system is from Home Depot. The lighting is quartz halogen and is dimmable, but I don't use it anymore because the models got too close to the lights after adding more shelves over time. I will eventually convert them to LED. It is fairly dust free. This is where I display part of my Pony Car collection. Enjoy!

very well thought out...the location, transition of areas.......construction looks top shelf and aesthetically ideal.....and the cars having ambient light along both sides is brilliant
BRAVO !!
Pete: Very nicely done. Was this a standard 2x4 wall. It looks thicker as the cars are turned diagonal.

he talks about bumping out the wall in his initial post description....."I cut a hole and widened the wall about one and half inches"
Pete, you did an excellent job.

Thank you John and John. My interior walls are lath board and plaster, so the walls are a bit thicker than a drywall house. The wall now is about two inches thicker than a typical drywall house. I originally built it to hold three big cars per shelf with a total of 7 shelves. I put the smaller cars in because I could get 4 per shelf if they were parked at a diagonal. This way I could display more models. I used display Corvettes, but I have more pony cars so the Vettes went into another display cabinet.
Thanks Ed!
that is brilliant Pete, the aesthetic affect of the picture frame is stunning! God help my house if I cut a whole in the wall anywhere! I'm actually converting a disused bedroom into a car room at present, using custom made acrylic wall mounted cases and largish glass showcases. Unfortunately going has been slowed because of covid lockdowns but we're getting there. I'm really looking forward to posting pics once it is finished.
Thanks Geoff! I have a couple of 21 car plastic cases that I put together to hold some of my '50's cars in my home office. Looking forward to seeing your completed project! Darn Covid!
Absolutely phenomenal idea John! And fantastic collection as well!
Terrific idea Pete. Love how you displayed by color.
Pete, pony cars are among my favorite. My first car was a 1967 Mustang, and my friends had others. Would you take some close-up photos showing the models.

Thanks Bob. I used to have the cars arranged by make. Later on, I changed it to year. Then one day I was trying to figure out how many cars I had by color and decided to try that arrangement. Something different!

Sure Ed. I'll start a pony car topic when I get a chance.
