My lighting, John, for model cars is usually all indoors. Ambient light in a dormer window supplemented by camera 'fill-flash'. My previous pro photography was all landscape, mostly Great Smoky Mountains and that generally was between 5 to 8 AM.
@perrone1 ..........Thanks Tony !!!.....I know from all the documentaries I saw as a child, that the bears in Jellystone park get up around 10:30 or so......your 5 to 8 strategy, while cruel and unusual, probably serves to keep you safe
the first of your three photos is a "religious experience" captured ,,,,BRAVO
on the third, did you employ a stacking technique?

Great discussion guys. John, in that first set of truck images, they seem to be floating above the ground. Curious effect that I don't see with the later images.
thanks Geoff.....I`m particularly fond of that dog....he came packed in the bed of a pickup one one of those "theme" trucks from Ertl.....it`s never the cereal we crave,it`s the "free toy" inside 🤨Â

LOL......the first set @ 8am was taken in temps of 30°__the sun was at it`s lowest and not creating much,if any,of a shadow....as I misted water onto the acrylic base, it froze, creating a "snow" cover, partially eliminating reflection from below.......the absence of shadow plus the lack of reflection seems to eliminate a reference point for the tires
2 hours later,in warmer temps, the rising sun casts long shadows and water pools around the tires
