Responding to previous post regarding buy one now get one later.
I want the 1956 Desoto Sportsman coupe but don't care for the color (nice color but every time I look at it I see it in other colors(s) so that is why I am fence sitting on the purchase). Same with the Monclaire conv. I want that Desoto model with the wire wheels but have been fence sitting for months regarding the current color(s). In a moment of weakness I was going to order it this last weekend because I wanted the 1948 Buick and I thought it would be best to have them both shipped directly to me in Canada (heck with import taxes). Couldn't do that (see response below "shipping to the lower 48"). So I ordered the Buick today, Monday, but have still not ordered the Desoto coupe (I know it is great so please don't remind me as it has nothing to do about price and everything to do about color). Either DM comes out with another similar Desoto model and I will consider ordering or I guess I will have to wait, and hope, for a repaint. I agree with most people here that I just don't want to get caught up in this game of ordering one model you don't want in order for you to get a future model you do want. I ordered the DM 1953 Corvette and never ordered any of their exclusive models. Love my '53' but I am not really into Corvettes. However I did later order the DM 1958 Corvette because they look great together and I am very happy with the 1958 Corvette.
In the future I hope the mints stop this game of order this one and you can later buy that one. Just offer the later ones as a Ltd. Ed. and get on with it. I will not tie up my money in one model I don't want in order to buy another model in the future I "might" want. I have been buying those future wish list models on auction and this is money the Mints don't get to help them develop future images.
Alfred, this won't make the investment collectors happy, but I have a feeling that DM now realizes that their product is such that they won't have to limit the issue number on any model. As long as they keep producing the outstanding, state of the art die cast cars that they have been reeling out, they can probably sell as many of them as they produce.
The recent Buick fastback issue is proving that, I'm sure.
In fact, the buy one and get two marketing program has probably backfired on at least one issue - the Caddy Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. I doubt that there are a flurry of collectors chomping at the bit for the black 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Seville hardtop.
I don't agree on this point........
I was more interested in the Seville but I bought the Biarritz to have it. In my opinion, they are both nice cars but the Seville looks better no matter its black. The chrome on black gives this model a very special look and the "vinyl" top is very cool.
I guess I made more than one point, LOL.
agree.
I think what we are all saying here is that we like certain models but prefer those models in colors we relate to for one reason or another. I am not a fan of the 1959 Cad, prefer a 1960, but I also think the 1959 Cad in black looks great. Maybe we can all agree it is time the 1:24 scale precison mfg. give us more than one color choice when they release a new image. I am pro repaints as long as the offering price is not inflated. There are a number of models, FM and especially DM, I would like and order if in another color. The inital thread was the buy a model now in order to buy another model later. From reading the messages on this board my thought is most of us disagree with this practice.
This way, I have to conceed to your opinion....
and the 50 Crestliner may be the beginning of a new trend.
We have to see how many have allready choosen the green vs the red one.
I totally agree. Ex: 1949 Mercury. Why would I buy the convertible to get the coupe?....
I love convertibles, I'd buy the convertible, period. I know I wouldn't buy an undesirable $115.00 diecast to get the one I like, I am not that desperate and I know there are many like myself too.
