Right rear door of '56 Buick won't close properly . . . is there a fix?
My '56 Roadmaster arrived today. I second all of the favorable comments on the Board: great model! However, inspector "Mike" missed the fact that the right rear door won't close all the way. (It was obvious even before the car was removed from the styrofoam.) Is there a fix for this? My usual solution--gently lifting the door a bit while closing it--won't work in this instance.
I guess I understand now why DM doesn't do more four-doors: the odds of getting an ill-fitting door are twice as high.
I fiddled around with my first car quite a bit and never could get the doors to fit better. I've read at least one other post of this problem being "fixable" with some manipulation - but not for me. I had to order a replacement and the doors on it are perfect.
I hope you get the door to close properly Dan. Good luck...and
I agree with you about your DM 4-door theory. I've said for years that the more working parts these little cars have, the more chances that some will not operate as they should. Plus more operating parts hike up the prices and lead to collector frustration.
Isn't it a beautiful car though? WOW FACTOR! big time.

Did you try pushing the door towards the hinge as you close it? That usually works.
I had the problem with mine. After some investigation, here's what I found was the problem.
On my copy, a slightly protruding interior headliner was the culprit. It required that I shave away some of the excess glue used to secure it to the plastic top. This action enabled the headliner to better fit in the cavity. I was able to do this using only my fingernail. The doors close fine now without any problem staying shut.

The driver's door on mine had the problem. I could get it closed, but then the leading edge protruded. My guess is a bad hinge.
