Robert Mason commented about the first year of a style cycle being the best.Then I started thinkin'.
Now, these are just my humble opinons;
'52-'53-'54 Mercury - '54 is best.
'55-'56 Mercury - '56 is best.
'57-'58 Mercury - '57 is best.
'54-'55-'56 Olds - '56 is best.
'52-'53-'54-'54 Lincoln - '55 is best.
'55-'56 Ford - '56 is best.
'53-'54 Chevy - '54 is best.
'52-'53-'54 Ford - '54 is best.
'53-'54 Pontiac - '54 is best.
'55-'56 Pontiac - '56 is best.
'57-'58 Ford - '57 is best.
Let's move on a bit;
'65- '66 Ford,Mercury,Pontiac,Buick -'66 is best.
'65-'66 Plymouth Fury, Chrysler - '65 is best.
'68-'69-'70 Charger - '68 is best.
'68-'69-'70 Dodge Coronet - '70 is best.
'70-'71-'72 Chevy Monte Carlo - hmmm, '71 & '72 get the nod.
So, it's sort of a mixed bag.
What do you think?
Hmmm....
...Steve, usually a particular year stands out in memory b/c we like them.
Typically, I like the 'original', I think it's the purest from of the designer's intentions..but designs that stand out for me are the really creative ones (see my list below). "Face lifts" usually represent some tinkering with the original design, and to my eye, it's schmaltzing up a good thing to keep it 'Fresh' and more marketable. My brief list:
'63 Riv, '64 Mustang, '55 Vette, '55 T-Bird, '67 Eldo, '72 Mark IV, '49 Jag XK120, '63 E Type.
Robert, I 'd have to disagree on your list with these....
'63-'64-'65 Riviera - '65 is best.
'55-'56-'57 T-Bird - '57 is best.
'64-'65-'66 Mustang - '66 is best.
'67-'68-'69 Eldorado - '69 is best.
But, it's all personal choice. Don't get me wrong,I love all years of the cars mentioned by both of us.
Steve....
....I'll have to rethink szeretlek, you know...;) What makes you prefer those years, what was it that made them better designs for you? I choose them based on the initial statement the designs made at the time. Looking thru the prism of history, the later versions look more modern or contemporary, like the '65 Riv. But when I look at them side by side (like at a car sho) the purity of the '63 is just so amazing, and moreso in '63. The '65 has more *WOW* now, with those hideaway vertical headlights behind those delicate ribbed doors, and the tail lights recessed in the rear bumper, but by '65 the Riv was old hat. Same with the other cars you preferred. I suppose part of my attraction is not just aesthetics, but also a historical perspective.
Steve, I agree it’s a mixed bag, but I can’t say I agree with ALL your choices.

I beleive I had said something like, "Often" or "most of the time?" It is a mixed bag, I agree.
