I have the model and like it a lot but the flames over the windshield "were a little over the top" IMO.

I don't disagree with you, but it has never bothered me.  Overall, I'm not a "custom" fan, but in the case of this '40 Ford, what DM gave us is tastefully and realistically done.  It's one of those old cars that seems natural to be either Stock or Custom.
