Oh MY! Brings back some cherished memories. (Of what; I'm not at liberty to say - HA!)
@perrone1 just goes to show.....you seem to be a good judge of characters
My money is on Spanky coming out on top in this tense standoff. Armed with his lethal slingshot and having Alfalfa as his wheel man (a recent change from visually challenged Froggy who totalled the previous Caddy) gives him a leg up, as it were, on winning Olive's affection. Poor Popeye, she must have finally tired of smelling spinach and pipe tobacco on his breath and watching him boast by flexing his biceps into destroyers with guns ablazing.

"flexing his biceps into destroyers with guns ablazing." LOL
gettin a leg up on Olive,or ATTEMPTING to, has been the downfall of many a HEE-man through the ages ..........going all the way back to 1931,when Popeye and Castor were just downtrodden private dicks
Lol....Olive Oyl and her brother Castor.....too funny. This the pre-Bluto days hey?
My favorite Popeye scene is when he opens a can of spinach with his pipe (of course) downs it and punches a threatening alligator, sending it skyward....it comes back down as a set of luggage.

Alligator bags a one-time common commodity
..........
........for me it was the surrealistic and dream like pursuit of Alice the Goon
Just imagine if you had been alive back in those days and introduced Slippin' Jimmy and his gang to comic strip America JB!
Wow....what a trip down memory lane. I had totally forgotten about the intro where the credits are shown by opening and closing the sailboat cabin doors. I always loved Popeye's mumbling comments.
That's it! I neglected to mention the shoes.
