Pontiac first used the Bonneville for its 1954 concept car based on the Corvette chassis.
The name was then resurrected in 1957 as a limited edition (as shown below). For 1958, the Bonneville model was used for their top of the line Pontiac. Designed under Semon E "Bunkie" Knudson, this high tech convertible only, would also get the full luxury and performance attributes available. Cheaper, at $3586.00 with some features of the '57 now optional, the convertible still only sold 630 units. Its "Tempest 395" V8 at 369 could be, with Tri-Power could be optioned to 315 HP with Rochester fuel injection a $500 option. Using the new X-frame that allowed for coils around, it had air suspension. The bladders could be electronically inflates full raising thee car to facilitate tire and oil changes. Cold air was brought to the engine ducted in front of the radiator. All in all it was quite a show boat, especially with the continental kit. A fully equipped model with all options as shown here, actually sold for $5850.00 at the dealership.
Fine images of this beautiful car and replica of it ! The deep blue and sky blue colors are gorgeous and this carries it's continental kit very well.
