I've always had mixed feelings about engines in our models. I know they add to the realism of the image, but when I think about it, for me, the engines are initially viewed when the model is  received, then put in a display case with the hood closed, never to be viewed again.  Seems like a great deal of effort and resources for a few minutes of oohs and aahs. My thinking also applies to the "working features" as well.

@sizedoesmatter Operating panels and engine details do offer a lot of ways to pose your model. Although having multiples of models with identical engines, I may have one displayed to show the inner workings and the rest, as you say, might as well be curbsides.

While I was shoveling snow I came up with another option, display a 3rd model upside down so the highly detailed under carriage can be viewed for all to see.  😀
