Evolved from a custom build ordered by Henry Ford ll and designed by E.T. "Bob" Gregorie, The Ford Deluxe "Sportman" was fully loaded so that it was the first Ford to be priced at $2000 since the 1908 Model K. It was produced from 1946 (their only new model that year) to 1948. It was powered by a 100hp L-head V8 through a 3-speed w/overdrive transmission. The mahagony plywood panels came from war surplus at a Ford plant that used them for glider construction. A total of 2274 were produced. You can picture an ad with a pipe smoking male model in waders fly-casting with the Sportsman in the background.
This Danbury Mint 1948 model is just a joy to behold. I love the red piping on the top and tonneau.
One of my faves! A very photogenic beauty!
Just a gorgeous model which I regret not buying.
A stunning with photos to match. This is also one of my favorite models.
