The Pony Car war escalated in 1970. Mustang received a minor facelift, Camaro and Pontiac were completely restyled along with the Barracuda, and a newcomer joined the party: Dodge Challenger. Unfortunately, no Mints issued the new 1970 GM pony cars in 1/24 scale, but Mustangs, 'Cudas, and Challengers were well represented and even plentiful. Tomorrow I'll post some of Chrysler's new 1970 E bodies.

Pete: GMP did the 70's GTO's, or do you consider those full size?
IMHO, GM really nailed it in 1970 with the redesign of their Camaro and Firebird, same for Chryco with their Cuda and the new, gorgeous Challenger. Mustang styling was slightly less attractive in '70 and declined sharply after that (exception is the 71+ Mach I).
Hi John. GTO and other high performance midsize cars like Chevelle SS396, Plymouth GTX, Roadrunner, Torino GT, Dodge Charger, AMC Rebel, etc fall into the muscle car category, basically midsize cars with big engines. Pony cars are those specifically designed and built to compete with the Ford Mustang. The original pony car (Mustang=horse=pony) was defined by its compact dimensions and long hood/short deck styling. It’s interesting to note that this new breed of car was based on its compact variant: Mustang/Falcon, Barracuda/Valiant, and Camaro-Firebird/Chevy II. Over time the pony cars would grow in size and “horse” power, blurring the line with muscle cars in some areas, with one exception—-back seat comfort!
great series thanks Pete, I only have the DM Grabber Green from those, would love to get hold of a DM Twister.
Nice pictures Pete. I have all of them. Years ago when I traveled the midwest, I would occasionally see a Twister Mustang in Kansas City.
