Built between 1936 and 1939, the Mercedes-Benz W29 540K Cabriolet was one of the largest and most expensive ($230.000 in todays money). The 540K designation was for the 5.4 liter straight 8 and K for Kompressor or supercharger which could be engaged manually or automatically when the accelerator pedal was put to the floor. With the Rootes type supercharger engaged, the engine produced 180 HP. There were 3 chassis variants. These CMC models are of the 'B' body which is recognizable by 4 side windows. The 'A' had 2 side windows as a 2-seat cabriolet and the 'C' was a larger bulletproof limousine. Strangely, the last 540K was completed in 1944 and considering the state Germany was in at that time, who the heck ordered the car? For me, the top up and top down models look like two different cars. With the top down, it almost looks like a parade car. With the top up, it kinda looks cute and cuddly ezpecially in this 'baby blue and cream combo.
