No, it's not the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. It's this 1968 Airstream International Sovereign Travel Trailer that's badged "Land Yacht" on it polished aluminum flank. This top of the line model is 30' long and has a cabin height of 6'7". It has all thee luxury amenities of a hotel suite on wheels. All functions including climate control are run on propane and a 12v and are controlled by a central panel to the left of the refrigerator/freezer. The exterior and interior walls are separated by fiberglass insulation. The windowed entry door has a full screen door that separates from it. Framed Corning glass windows let in a lot of light and offer vista viewing. You can stay connected to the world by a huge antenna array for radio/TV/ CB functions. Comfortably sleeping 4-6 people, for a small family, why go home? You're already there! With that huge full length retractable awning, the world is your back yard patio.

FM's model is incredibly detailed and with its detachable roof, you're privy to all its features.

Wow, now that's a unit that would need another certified land yacht to pull it.  Not sure if this one would do the trick; you may need to throw a cam and headers on it........maybe even more....oh, and a hitch!

Rich that is a great trailer.  Missed getting one new and recently at a great price on ebay as mint in box.  Maybe one day, but I am running out of space for such big models.

another outstanding example from FMs 'golden period'. I'd love to add one of those, space problems and costs now too. I have nearly all of the Greenlight 1/24 caravans, and they are great, although not up to this standard. Fantastic closeups Rich. thanks

The long trailer brought to mind this old movie.  The poor '53 Mercury convertible would need a new trans after pulling this monster over hill and dale!

I ignored the first issue, but when I got a close look at this precision 'doll house on wheels', I grabbed the reissue. It just has a different color pattern on the retractable awning.

Jack, I'm sure you've read this before..."During the scenes of Nicky and Tacy pulling their trailer in the mountains, their 1953 Mercury Monterey convertible is replaced with a larger but similar appearing 1953 Lincoln Capri convertible. The distinct Lincoln grille is clearly evident in a shot as the car rounds a curve. The more powerful Lincoln (which is equipped with a 205 HP V8 engine) was needed to pull the heavy New Moon trailer up and over the steep grades of the California Sierras where the scenes were filmed." From the www.
