For the 1933-'34 Chicago World's Fair, Duesenberg went all out with this Gordon Buehrig designed Duesenberg SJ Arlington Torpedo Sedan. It was certainly a bold move in the middle of the Great Depression to build this one-off beauty with a price tag of $20,000. But, the World's Fair was about the future of design and technology and, like its stable mate, the Pierce Silver Arrow was meant to be the "car of 1940 in 1933". The technology in this "Twenty Grand" included a 421 cid supercharged twin cam straight 8 developed from their Indy car engine that produced an incredible 320 HP. The torpedo body was built by Rollston of New York included a chauffer partition with a second set of gauges for the rear passengers to monitor speed and functions. Franklin Mint released this model 37 years ago in 1989 and of course by later standards, it's very old tech making more of a "two foot" model, but it did capture the essence of one of the greatest cars built in the 1930s.
Excellent pictures and fair appraisal of the model Rich. The model has been in my collection since 1989 and will always be there as an important part of automotive history. I also have a model of this car in 1/43 scale.
