I’ve been obsessed with this model ever since I first saw it years ago. I honestly don’t know why I was attracted to it initially, it was kinda like love at first sight. I got into the Mint models very late in the game, probably 6 or 7 years ago at the most, so I of course rely on the web for models. This little bastard has hardly ever shown up, and when it has the asking price has been way out of my league. When I’ve checked on the auction history’s they have actually sold for the crazy numbers. I have no idea why, they are either very rare or the people that own them are holding on to them. I finally made a deal on one for a price I could almost afford and I’m more than stoked. Here it is so don’t snicker, it’s not exciting or amazing, but I adore the cute little thing!

congrats on the buy Kevin. One of those 1/24 diecast market mysteries I'd say, there are a few of them about. The DM 67 Pontiac convertible selling for way more than the hardtop. Same with the DM 54 Cadillac. Both DM 56 Ford Fairlanes selling for well in excess of both 55s.

Congrats - that's been sort of a Holy Grail model for some time. It isn't a limited edition model but you hit on both reasons it is so hard to collect.

DM issued the 31 Pickup in 1999 as an open issue and it sold extremely well. And did so for a long time. They didn't issue a repaint until almost 11 years later. By then, a lot of those who had the Rubelite truck felt they did not need it and DM sold very few of them. But people liked that Cigarette Cream color and those who bought them, held onto them. SO not so many around and folks hoard them. Congrats again; you did very well!!

Kevin, I'd never snicker at anyone looking for a holy grail model, no matter what it is. That's one of the reasons that make collecting fun. The thrill of the hunt. We each have our own likes, and when it gives us that huge smile when we get it makes it so worthwhile. I have one coming myself. And that's one gorgeous little truck.😉😁

Congratulations on the addition. Like you, I love this color and yet I didn't buy it because I had the red one. I have always regretted not adding this to my collection and now my 1/24 display space is filled. Perhaps some day.

Thanks for the info Tony, I appreciate the knowledge and insight that you bring to the Zone. And also thanks to all for the comments. To my Spirit Brother Geno, I think we need to start a contest to guess the model you are so anxiously waiting on. I totally know that feeling of anticipation, having it right now as a matter of fact. Whatever it is you are getting must be something really crazy because from what you’ve shared you have a ton of the most finest diecasts I’ve ever seen, real museum pieces in my opinion. I’m guessing this one, what do I win?

Update 25 August….received my ‘Grail’ model today! You are probably wondering what the fuss is all about?! Well, I can’t explain it either, all I know is that I’m totally stoked about finally getting this model. I’ve always like the red that I’ve had for a long time, but this one is over the top cool to my eyes! Cute as a bug’s ear.
