I’m not much of a Chrysler guy, but I’ve always admired this model. Just never enough to pay in the thereabouts of $200 for one. Looking online this morning I saw this auction. It doesn’t have the original box, and the only defect is missing wipers. I made an offer of $90 and he accepted. I personally think this is one of the most period perfect model from the ‘40’s, especially in this color.
It is a nice model Kevin well done, make sure they pack it carefully as there is no box, the roof rails are delicate..
Thanks Greg, I’m always wary about buying a model with no box, especially one like this that has so many delicate looking pieces.I’ve mostly had good luck with the few that I’ve gotten, if it’s just a small part that’s included and intact I can easily glue it on. I’ve gotten maybe two or three over the years that were so roached that I’ve had to return them and they’ve always worked out so far. I appreciate your heads-up!
hopefully we'll get a chance to see Tonys and Rich S's incredible photos of this model. When their pics were first posted all those years ago I went hell for leather to get a MIB from ebay. Been a real favorite now for many many years.
Excellent grab Kevin! And for that price you got the reissue in Polo Green.
Geoff, sorry, I have pics of the original black version; I never got this gorgeous puppy!
Have it in both colors and the details are superb. Congrats on the catch.
Congrats Kev, what a beauty, in a perfect color.💯😎
@geno Thanks Geno, it is a great ‘40’s color, though I haven’t seen one in person. I’ve never figured out why the black version is so much lower in cost than the green. Probably a rarity thing even though the green is a reissue and isn’t a limited edition. Maybe Tony knows.Have a good day bud, it’s raining and chilly up here but we need it.
@kevins I hear ya buddy, it's been chilly and raining here pretty much all day. ⛈️🌬
@kevins thanks Kevin, yep that is the color for the car/model. Great photo essay as always from John.
@geoff-jowett You are so right Geoff, here’s a shot from Danbury’s ‘Classics of the Open Road’ Holiday 2007 catalog. These are very useful (and entertaining) for reference.
Supply and demand. DM put out the black car (6/1/1998) and it was an instant hit. Everybody bought one. The green 'repaint' didn't get reissued until 2/14/2006, some eight years later. It sold well with little DM fanfare but not to the numbers of the black version out all that time.@geno Thanks Geno, it is a great ‘40’s color, though I haven’t seen one in person. @perrone1 I received the model, and I must say, it’s a winner. The 1/1 automobile that it’s based on is definitely unique, I’ve never seen one in person but from info I’ve gathered there weren’t many made, and very few still exist. There’s a lot going on with the DM model, the overall wow factor when you first see it and all of the small details when you study it closely are just crazy! The colors and shapes of this Chrysler scream 1940’s, I’m glad to finally have the model in my collection!
