Referred to as the Square Bird the ‘59 Thunderbirds saw an increase in sales over the 2 passenger ‘55-59’Birds as beginning in ‘59 the Thunderbird became a 4 passenger “personal “ car. Brooklin did a beautiful ‘59 in Wedgewood Blue.

Of the three Squarebird years I prefer the '59; mainly because of its grille design.
The square bird actually began in 1958. While many were upset that the square bird replaced the baby birds, sales were far bigger and the move to personal luxury cars made Ford the leader in this new category. These birds were a big success, but at the other end of the line, the Edsel was a disaster for the company.
Ah, cut it out David! Which are the real cars and which are the models?
Yep, Bob is right (always is - LOL!) the '55 through '57 "Baby Birds" were two seaters and in '58 they went four place, heralding in the era of the "Square Birds". That 2nd Generation included '58 though '60. Third Gen was the "Bullet Birds" '61 - '63 and Fourth Gen ("Flair Bird") was '64 to '66. They all stayed four place cars until the 2002 - 2005 retro car.
Way back in time my buddies dad had a '58...it was white of course. Not happy with it, he traded it in for a red and black '58 Pontiac Chieftain 2-dr hardtop.

All these 1/43 models present themselves wonderfully because the original was also such a good-looking machine. Right now, both my 1958-era Thunderbirds are in 1/18 scale from SunStar, yet in any scale, Ford Thunderbirds from this era are beautiful stunners !
@david-knight David I was quite sure you knew this with your knowledge of automobiles.
