ย I've been "under the weather" for the last few weeks, but last evening I felt better and started looking through my old kits for a project.ย Here's one that looks pretty good:
ย I have built these Nostalgic Miniature kits before, and they tend to be good ones.ย I like that this one has two different versions of the pickup bed.ย The standard is what most of us would recognize, but the second is referred to as a "veg wagon" and even has a top.ย ย
ย Now comes the call for help.ย A "veg wagon" seems to call for fruits, vegetables, and the like.ย Where can I find such stuff in our scale?ย Over the years, I have bought the little people who clamor all over my models, but they came from multiple sources.ย Does anyone know of a source for other stuff to use?ย ย Thanks in advance for any ideas.

This is sort of an off-the-wall reply David but what about Play Doh or something similar? You could make tiny balls of it for fruits, maybe spindle it for carrots, etc. I assume maybe it would dry out over time. You might also go to a Hobby Lobby and see if somone in the crafts dept can help. Or HobbyTown if one is near you - they sell a lot of O-gauge stuff.
Not experienced with this vender but a place to look. ย ๐

Dave, what you really need is alot of CHEAP, IN SCALE "fruit."ย
-I would look at H.O. or N scale (model Rail Road) fruit trees.ย These "boxes of trees"ย are usually inexpensive. From the trees, you then simply "harvest the fruit."
-Another even CHEAPER alternative is to buy several blister-packs of COLORED straight (sewing) pins which are sold in a variety of colors. Simply cut the colored-heads off and you'll have "hundreds"ย of red, orange, yellow & green mini-round "pieces of fruit"ย in no time....ย ย and all for under $5.00! ๐ย
-Mini multi-colored jewelry beads also work (and are cheap) but then YOU must fill in, or hide, all the holes. ๐ซย
-Lastly, I suggest you visit "well-stocked"ย doll house supply shops.ย Any good store (on-line or brick & mortar) will sell various scales of miniature food, including fruits!
Good luck and remember to post pics!ย These rare, vintage, "vender wagons" ย are always nice to see.
Check out ETSY.com. You'd be surprised by what you can find there.
David, I recently built a fruit and veggie wagon too. ย I bought little beads at a Michaels (or Hobby Lobby) in several sizes, and painted them. ย I have tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, apples, oranges, and a couple others. ย I dropped them into little bins (styrene sheet) and added a little clear epoxy to hold them in place (prevent thievery). ย Good luck!
Many thanks to all of you.ย I looked at the pin heads suggested but went to Preiser (very similar to TruScale) in HO size.ย They just arrived and they are "LITTLE."ย Gonna have to use a fine tipped brush!ย Lots of detailing ahead, too.ย ย Great fun!ย ย And thingluvr, how about some pictures of your results.

Yes, and he also accused us of loving our things, whatever that means ๐คฉ ๐ ๐
Ben and Christopher,ย I assure you that no personal terminology was intended to make anyone uncomfortable on this august forum.ย I am convinced, however, that my delving into the world of HO could easily result in a loss of balance.ย I will refrain from as much future contact with that scale as possible.
