For the past year I am collecting luxury SUVs. Don't ask me why, we are all crazy.
In 1999, soon after BMW took control over the Range Rover, they tried to stick the V12 into the Range Rover. Apparently two cars were built, and the project was abandoned. Information is very scarce, but I tried to get as much as I could.
This one started life as a regular 1995 model from Autoart. The front end has been extended (the real thing got a 6 inch extension to accommodate the engine) and changed. The car styling is assymetric, as this is really a running prototype. We tried to reflect this in the model - the rims on the right are different from the left, the styling of the headlights and the fog lights, as well as the rear panel were all changed accordingly. Note the 2.5 DSE lettering on the back - I think they tried to disguise the real engine this way.
I know it could have been better, but this builder is the only reliable and inexpensive guy I know, so let it be.
This is a really interesting and unique project. I enjoyed your blog and the origins of this BMW Range Rover. The model looks good despite your reservations. Thanks for sharing.
