In Argentina there was a car that has an interesting American history, essentially a remake and continuation of the late 1960s Rambler American. Called a Torino it was known as an IKA Renault Torino. The last Renault made with rear wheel drive. Back in 1961 Industrias Kaiser Argentina (IKA)was looking for another new product and settled on an extensive redesign of the American Motors Rambler American range of cars. This would be a mid sized range of cars in Argentina. There is a storied and complex history between Kaiser, Jeep, American Motors IKA, and Renault that resulted in this unique range of cars. IKA had Pininfarina redesign the car, to move it up market although its bones were still the familiar to Americans, Rambler American. The locally made engine they fitted as a unique single overhead cam unit that had been used briefly in the early Jeep Wagoneers and Gladiator trucks in the USA and was used in the military versions of the Gladiator. Usual displacement was 3.0 liters but larger versions came subsequently, some with quite high performance, leading to rallye successes. Gearboxes were ZF four speed manuals. There was a pillarless coupe and a four door sedan and a convertible. These IKA Renaults became known as the national car in Argentina with a great following Now the Argentine partworks offers this car is three versions. All have slightly different front and rear styling features that were used over its long 1966-1981 production run. The three versions are shown below with a circa 1969 Rambler American in blue.

Thank you, John, for this good information. I am aware of the earlier years when the Kaiser Manhattan became their Kaiser Carabela, and I have a couple of models made for South America of this good product.
