att. Kenneth Hodges- The Floyd Clymer book arrived yesterday and it's really special.
CARS OF THE STARS AND MOVIE MEMORIES, published in 1954, is a delightful scrapbook of pictures and memories, even though photographic printing has improved since 1954. And the Anna Held Packard is one of the pictures on the paper-back cover. Many thanks for your recommendation.

A forgotten car- the Leach-Biltwell of California (pics)

Forgive me for straying afar, but this picture interested me. I had never heard of the Leach automobile. Here is a thumbnail history:
The Leach automobile
Martin Leach, California salesman and auto restylist, announced in late 1919 the formation of the Leach Biltwell Motor Company in Los Angeles. Soon after came the purchase of the local Republic Truck Company plant and a small number of hand-built cars soon appeared at the sales center. Open "Sport Sedans" for four and seven passengers were first produced, and soon were equipped with California tops (hard tops without windows). Coupes and sedans were produced by late 1920. First year cars were powered by Continental Red Seal engines and sold in the $5,000 and higher price range. They quickly became popular with local movie stars. In 1921 Leach bought the Miller Engine & Foundry Works, including the involvement of engineer Harry Miller of racing fame. A Miller designed engine went into production in 1921.
By mid-1922 prices were slashed in the post-war economic depression, and by late 1922 the Leach Biltwell Motor Company was closed.
Subjects for 1:43 production? I'm not sure if enough potential buyers today would recognize the name of Tom Mix, let alone the Leach.

You could count me in, I find these...
automobiles very fascinating and these old beasts would certainly fill an otherwise mostly empty showcase area in my collection, what I call the "Pre-1930's Era".
Right now there are only a few...not including the Danbury Mint pewter models.
