I love the 98, but I never got this one. If I was industrious enough to change the powder blue on the wheels to red, I'd get one.

A stunning shade of blue was chosen.

John,

Was unaware of the Brooklin offering and would love to have one in the collection as it was a, (arguably the), real muscle car of its time with it's OHV V8 in a "midsize sedan". It made  history on the World's racing stage in 1950 when it won the 1st of five La Carrera Panamericana races.

The Carrera Panamericana was a border-to-border sedan (stock and touring and sports car) rally racing event on open roads in Mexico similar to the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio in Italy. Running for five consecutive years from 1950 to 1954, it was widely held by contemporaries to be the most dangerous race of any type in the world.[1] It has since been resurrected along some of the original course as a classic speed rally.   -Wikkipedia

Here is my homage to the stock hot rod of the time, in this case the 1950 Oldsmobile 88 centered in the display.  A Tron model?

@stewil, a great subject for discussion. I tend to agree with the 88 being an early muscle car. But Buick did the same thing with their new Century in 1936 when they put the Roadmaster engine in their  Special chassis. This idea had been floating around for a while.

Great scale tribute to that race Steve!  Here's my smaller-1/64 attempt.  One day I hope to do a mini-diorama featuring many of the cars, as they appeared in 1954.  I've replicated a few so far....

Brooklin also did a 1948 98 Holiday Coupe (BRK73). I had one, but squashed the hard-top roof and was able to replace it in part exchange, from a reputable modeller (name escapes me) who wanted my wreck to produce a convertible.  I'd love to see how that turned-out.

Christopher,

Yours is an outstanding start of what appears will be a wonderful display. My favorite car is Von Esser's 1954 Corvette, also those big Lincolns.  Here is my Von Esser's 'Vette in 1/24th scale. Have never seen one in 1/43rd.

Brooklin did do a 1948 Olds 98 convertible but they are quite rare i believe.  I managed to bag one for reasonable money on a recent Vectis auction.   One sold recently on Ebay with a really flattened windscreen.

The convertible I have was a limited edition with singer song writer Hoagy Carmichael who, among other songs, wrote Stardust.

@john-quilter & @bob-jackman I've just gleaned this from Brooklin's website: The standard 1949 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Coupe (BRK73) was released in August 1998 and deleted in January 2000. This model was a limited production with “Brooklin Models” missing from the baseplate. Brooklin Models, BRK73A 1948 Oldsmobile Convertible was a Brooklin Collector's Club 2001 special (Hoagey Carmichael) (Blue). The production time frames are very limited doubtless the reason for their scarcity.  (My squashed model was off-loaded to be converted - if you'll bear with the pun - and replaced, prior to the Hoagy convertible's release).
