Brooklin Boxes
I spoke at length with Nigel this morning about, amongst other things, the new boxes. The cost of the boxes, as I know has been discussed here before, is nowhere near the ?20 that was quoted at the Brooklin Collectors' Club meeting late last year. In fact the cost is less than half that and it is Brooklin's intention that no profit will be made out of the packaging. Obviously, because it is a more sophisticated form of packaging, it is more pricey than the current less protective current boxes. It is Brooklin's intention that the models are received undamaged, and to be able to send them out complete, i.e. without the need to affix bonnet mascots, rear lights and other parts which are prone to damage currently. The price increases are more about increased detail and quality with the cost of the box contributing only a minor element to the overall cost. The first model to appear in the new packaging will be the forthcoming Ford.
Thank you for the clarification. Still will be a bear to store.
I'll take that over having to fiddle with tiny pieces and Elmer glue, however.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Thanks Mike. The extra protection & no assembly is worth it to me.
Boxes
I can't believe the issue of the Brooklin boxes has dragged on for so long without being sorted by the factory before now. I've had discussions with Nigel and Amanda over the years, about the poor boxes we've had to put up with for the protection of our valuable models.
With the current boxes, which start to self destruct the moment they are first opened, one cause of the problem has been the thick slab of foam which although seemingly protective has put immense strain on the box, particularly at the joint. They are far too flimsy, especially for the longer, heavier models such as the CSV range items.
I will be relieved when the new boxes appear; of the last 6 new Brooklins, three arrived with pieces loose. Before I received the BML 14 T&C today (thanks Mike) it was 3 out of 5, a 60% failure rate. Totally unacceptable, but at least Amanda came to the rescue and had 2 repaired, the third I returned. I will appreciate not having to think about adding aerials, mirrors etc, although I have to admit to not fitting the additional detail to any of my models up to now!
I'm pleased to hear the new style boxes aren't the extra cost burden we feared they'd be; like others though, my concern is their size for storage.
The BML 14 is an amazing model, the best Brooklin I have (I have 161) it's arrived in one piece despite the high count of additional added details, and I look forward to new models being as good or even better!
I’m pleased BML14 arrived safe and sound and complete Roger.
I think one of the problems, particularly with the larger piecesis insufficient adhesive. They very often reach me with parts detached, but I glue them back on but make sure there is sufficient adhesive, and that seems to solve the problem. I have mentioned this to Nigel and he agrees that this could be the problem and will be resolving it. Because of the rigours of the mailing systems, there are bound to be some problems, but the new boxes should sort out many of them. Time will tell.
Agree. I always thought the too-thick foam caused most of the damage.
