Brooklin Hot Rods
Sorry about my rant about muscles cars, but it got me thinking. What do we think about the range of Brooklin Hot Rods. We all seem to be reviewing and revering the standard Brk range, but the HR's seem to go by the wayside.
So come on what do you all like and dislike, this may make an interesting debate. From what i understand they sell reasonably well, so someone must be buying them other than me !!
Brooklin Hot Rods.
I think they picked the wrong models to convert to Hot rods, A good example was the 54 Hudson,Did anyone ever see a hot rod Hudson,Race cars yes but not Hot Rods.
I just traveled to the Brooklin website and reviewed Rod 43rd.
I don't have any of these, and I just looked through my "space" for anything similar. All I could find was a large Tootsietoy from the '50's: photo no longer available
While I appreciate the workmanship and individuality of these rods, I just don't care for them. And when I see a great old car cut into one of these, I really hurt. I saw a fiberglass '32 Ford imitation at a show a while back that demonstrated some skills, but I spent more time viewing originals or decent restorations.
I mean no criticism of those who like hot rods. I even have a friend who . . .
Brooklin Rods ...
I like some of them, the 61 Impala but in another color (flat black or primer grey), the 59 El Camino & 67 Mustang I like but without the blown engines. The 64 Corvette & 57 + 65 T-Bird are the best looking in my opineon. I can also taste the Hudson, nice grille on that one.
I'm not into English cars but the 1960 Consul looks very nice with a very suiting orange color.
The best looking was the 67 Mustang for Hot Rod Magazine.
Shel,Hudson
Sheldon,Sorry to disagree but the Hudson is one of the best of the Rod Series. The Graham and Stude are a little strange amongst others but you know that 50's cars make nice rods.Maybe they wouldn't have made a Hudson into a street rod back in 54 but they would now.
Some of these Rods look like what .......
Matchbox did to some of their models in the early '70's. They took decent models and then gave them 'Superfast' wheels and exposed engines. These old toys have a great following today and perhaps Brooklin are trying to target their Rods to this market!

Brooklins made into hot rods don't interest me in the least but if there are those who will buy them, more power to Brooklin for building them.

Greg Hudson Hot Rod
At the cost of buying a Classic Hudson these days there are not many people that would want to attack the originality, I saw a nice original in January at a classic auction in need of restoration sold for $38,000.00 but agree with you that that car has good body lines to make a great custom. The Twin H engine would still be a mover now.
Shel
PICS - I really like some of the Brkln Rods.
The 1939 La Salle Tudor Sedan is my favorite because I have a 1:1 '35 Chevy Tudor Sedan that looks very similar to it, and you see many of the same ilk at rod runs almost any weekend.
Well done Brooklin.
Here are some PICS of the Vette that I just finished messing with. Will have to do a bit more detailing because have noted a few things that can be done better. Funny how the eye just glosses over things and connects nonexistent dots, whereas the camera is unblinking, and often unflattering.

Hod Rods / I would like to see a .....
souped up version of Brooklins 1967 Thunderbird. Not so much a hot rod as maybe a pro tourer. Different color, red with a black top maybe with the right set of after market wheels. Would look sharp I think. I have seen 1:1 67 Thunderbirds that were FIXED UP and they look sharp. Just a thought ! Take Care, RANDY B.
Rods
I much prefer the customised versions in this range. I think certain early ones in the range were not typical but as the range progresses perhaps more thought is going into the choice and advice is being given by people in the know.
My opinion on the Brooklin rods
I don't have much interest in them because (and correct me if I'm wrong) they are ficticious. Typical maybe, but ficticious. If Brooklin would seek out actual rods and duplicate them, I could be more interested. I have a few rods in my collection, like the '32 Ford by Universal/Eagles Race and a Modifiers Honda Del Sol "rice rod", but lack of following reality is acceptable to me since they are cheap.
