I know that somewhere I still have the,  incredible for the time, 1/43 Corvette and Shelby Cobra unbuilt kits that have PE parts.

@chris This AMR Porsche Carrera RSR that placed 2nd at Le Mans in 1974 was, IMHO, the handbuilt that served notice to the "blob" makers that they had to up their game. Andre Marie Ruf's kits and handbuilts went on to be in high demand, and his stylized logo appeared on several actual Le Mans entrants.

Certainly, I can see how that model, at THAT time, would've caused slight panic among rival "small-scale"  model manufactures.  My friends and I, during the same period, judged all replicas, more-or-less, by 1/24 & 1/25 model kit standards...which in the late 1970's/early-to-mid 1980's were quite good.

Sad to say, even this successful AMR  Porsche Carrera replica would've been scoffed by us.  Like practically all 1/43 models at that time, they simply weren't "refined"  enough for our tastes; we had high standards even then, despite being long-haired punk kids. 😬 😬

Call us snobs if you must, but we truly dismissed almost all 1/43 as, well,  ...."blobs w/wheels."  Can't say that today!  Can't even think it! 😳 😳
