Part of my daily routine is walking our collie dog over on the beautiful campus of the University of Richmond.  It’s amazing to see the various makes of cars that the students have on campus.  A student had just parked her new black Range Rover in front of her dorm.  By comparison a young family had parked their older Chevrolet Suburban in a lot so they could go fishing on the lake on campus.

It’s fun to see the actual cars that are done in 1:43 and that I have in my collection.

I am just curious ............. you seem mostly interested in actual or recent car models while most of us are collecting replicas from the past.

Do you find most of them at drugstores like Walgreen or Rite Aid?

I don't collect recent models but I have replicas of BMWs I own. I believe they were made by Minichamps or Sparks. They are 1/43 scale BMW licensed products with hood and trunk operating features.

A student driving a Range Rover has a lot more money than I had when I was in college. Love your collie as we have had two over the years along with dozens of rescues of mix breeds.

David, I love the way you replicate your model images to match the angles of the real cars you’ve spotted. Makes for a great comparison!

@nickies

Actually, Nickies, a large number of models in my collection are Brooklins ranging  from  cars of the ‘30’s to those of the ‘60’s. I used to enjoy buying Brooklins from several of my favorite dealers like Bob Hooper at Dominion Models. Then there were those special editions done by John Roberts whose models were authorized by Brooklin. If a part needed replacement, an email to Amanda at Brooklin would secure a replacement. I understand replacement parts are still available but I’ve not had occasion or need to order any of late.  Other models In my collection are by Minichamps, Schuco, Norev, IXO, Greenlight and others. My collection is probably much like many others.

Bob, A lot of Audis, BMWs, new Jeep Wranglers belong to students on campus. Tuition is pretty steep so there must be deep pockets out there. UR is also a very good school.

I have a bunch of those 'modern' 1/43rds.  Really great and most are diecast.  I think your Range/Land Rovers are by LCD, which look very nice, even though I don't have any (yet)!  😒

The Range Rover and the Chevrolet Suburban look excellent and are fine additions to a collection. I have a diecast I picked up at a CVS of a modern Range Rover done in 1/38 scale by Kinsmart. It is really nice and is in a deep orange color, which is one of 4 colors it comes in.

Mike, those Kinsmart  models are actually quite good! And at $6.99 a copy at that. They also have the new Land Rover Defender in black.  Since these are sold at CVS could we claim them as a medical expense on our taxes.

And Karl, the 1:43 Range Rovers are done by LCD. I’m so hoping they will do the current 2022-2023 Range Rovers.
