Design Studio Customs and street rods
Here are a few of the Design Studio Customs and Street Rods. This is by no means all that they built under DS. They made many stock cars.

Left to right in back: Pierson Bros. Dry Lakes Coupe, signed by Dick Pierson on base. Bob Hirohata 1951 Mercury, by Barris Bros., Larry Ernst, Purple Passion 1951 Chevrolet, by Barris Bros., plus 1934 Ford 3 window, two 1937 Fords, flatback & Convertible, 1936 Ford 3 window coupe and 1936
Ford Roadster, 1932 Ford Highboy, two 1940 Mercury's, 1940 Ford Convertible, all chopped. The following, all chopped, 1949 Mercury, 1950 Ford coupe, 1948 Chevrolet and 1953 Chevrolet convertibles. These are all favorites.

This was in your group but it should be pointed out it's another Barris car, the Mantranga custom based on a 1940 Mercury.
Wish I had that base for my Pierson coupe!

What a great group of models! Would love to have one of those Larry Ernst '51 Chevys for my collection. Saw that car pictured on the cover of Motor Trend Magazine back when it was new, and recognized the Ohio license plate as local. I was only nine years old at the time, and too young to investigate where in the area the owner lived. Was many years later that I found out the owner was Father Larry Ernst, a local priest! Was finally able to see the actual car at the Detroit Autorama several years ago.

Nick Matranga 1940 Mercury
Harvey, it seems strange that Motor City spelled Nick Matranga's name incorrectly, since this is a very famous Barris custom. Nick was a California resident, and Motor City was in North Hollywood, CA. All rodders know the name and the car. One of the best '40 Mercury's on the planetphoto no longer available

I believe you are referring to the 1/43rd Conquest #33 1957 Chrysler Imperial Crown Southhampton 2 dr hardtop in Copper Met., with a Desert Beige top. Minimum of 25 to 30 years old.
