A recent article in Model Auto Review prompted me to edit my pics of the same model.

This is probably the first instance of a Dinky model/real car introduction at the same time (1959). I had not thought about the baseplate until I read the article but the "Herald" font is identical to the real car. I'm not sure if that was a first but I've seen it a few times on other models.

Does this one ever bring back fond memories and as well, the wish that I had carefully saved this Dinky as well as the one that came in dark green and white. I bought the blue and white one in a store in Parry Sound, Ontario as the Canadians got Dinky models ahead of when we got them in the States. I then got the green and white one. If I remember correctly, this Triumph Herald was one of the first Dinky Toys to have windows and suspension.

The Triumph Herald was imported briefly to the U.S. and I remember seeing a few. Thanks Harv, for this trip down Memory Lane!

This is a good one and another favorite from childhood.  I have it and the green one.  I had one other redone in the mocha/white rare color.

Nice post Harv. I grabbed mine and checked the base. I had not noticed the 'Herald' in the special printing before. Nice to know. Thanks.

I have the green and white Dinky but here are some later Vanguards ones, a convertible and a yellow saloon.  The estate is a Bijou transkit on the Vanguards.  These estates were never imported to the US but I have seen a few private imports at shows.

And Triumph sold the dies for the Herald to India who produced the Standard Gazelle but modified it into a four door saloon and a very few four door estates.  The one pictured is my conversion of a Vanguards into the Indian version.  You will NOT see one of these at your local car show.
