The Fiat 124 was made in Italy from 1966 to 1974, but when you add the versions made by Seat in Spain, the Lada VAZ-2101 in the USSR, and many others, the basic platform was the 5th best selling in history (per Wikipedia). Mercury No. 46 saw the light of day in 1966, but I don't know when it was deleted.
Here's a few of the Ladas, made in the old USSR.

I also have that red Mercury Fiat 124 as you do and it's a very nice model, with the opening doors, jeweled headlights and a neat sprung suspension.

It is amazing how many Fiat 124 and Lada cars are still around when you travel overseas. There also have been a great variety of models.
In about 1972, Fiat dealerships in Canada sold models of the Fiat 124 and other Fiat models from previous times by Mercury, Dugu and Rio. I believe I paid $3 each back then.
I still have a few of the Dugu and Rio but sold the Mercury models I wish I'd kept a few.
Here is another Mercury Fiat 124 but not one of the ones mentioned above.
